there are too many kit-cars to simply say "yes", for example, a GTD40 with a monster V8 won't be much cop as a everyday car, but then the GTM Libra is a superb in that respect...
The market is huge with virtualy every taste catered for and the reliability of the machines comes down to the original builder / kit usually - the donor parts are usually reliable...

I racked up over 27,000 miles round the M25 in all weathers in my AM Sportscars EX2 before I a) replaced it with a motorbike cos of the traffic b) started generally buggering around with it for track days.
Mine only broke down twice, both due to acts of idiocy by me (knackered CV joint I knew about and installing the ECU right above the exhaust manifold).
So yes, if you fit a sensible engine into a sensible car then you can use them as a normal car, but have a bucket load more fun.
