Car selling woes - advice reqd...

Hey all,
As some of you may know, im selling this car:

Im after £1500 as its immaculate with full history/MOT etc.
Anyway, I had a bloke come and test drive it on friday afternoon, really nice chap, he wanted to test drive another one but was v impressed. Anyway, he rang on Saturday to say that he'd driven the other Golf and it was a rusty bag of nails, so he'd decided to buy my Golf - BUT - he crashed his brand spanking new Vectra thru a hedge on the way back from viewing the other Golf on friday, so now couldnt buy my car! DOH!
A guy who drove it last Tuesday/Wednesday rang last night tho - wants to look at it in the daylight but hes pretty sure itll be tip top, so offered me.................£1k. Hmmm. I managed push him up to £1100 but he wont go any higher - should i take it? Id really like a bit more than that, but he wont budge - should i wait and hope someone else will want it, or should i take the £1100 and give him the keys? Im tempted with the latter as im getting really pissed off with the number of people who keep arranging to come and view it and then dont bloody turn up!

Hes already seen it - he wants another look. He drove it last week and absolutely thrashed the nuts off it, scared the hell out of me by trying to get it on 3 wheels round a roundabout! Surprised me TBH, as he pulled up in a Maserati!
Ive been told that i can get £1500 (as its in such great condition) if i wait for a buyer, and i dont need the money just yet - within the next 3 weeks would be prefferable. £1100 is pretty low for the condition - far worse cars go for that money!

Your Golf, has MOT, tax and all of the other required gubbins yeah? If so then lets be honest here, it looks like £1,500 quid to me.... Decent tyres, body fine and well looked after means that it is £1,300 as a minimum!!! Its not starship mileage and therefore worth much more than the £1,100 offered....
An 8v is a cracking purchase if its a good 'un. Solid, pretty reliable and worth the money. If its a ancient one with high mileage then fine, but its not so I would say go for £1,300 as a minimum...

Its got a whole years MOT (minus 2 days!), tax until end of March, is an immaculate, stunning example and has full history etc. It really is a well cared for car! (owned by ex copper for last 11 years before i bought it).

Hes a typical dodgy car dealer type. Nice bloke, but looked like a gangster - bald head, leather jacket etc etc. I told him id have a think but he put pressure on me to let him know by today. I know if i try to make him hold on, he'll just say no and walk away.
Basically, £1100 plus the £300 i can source elsewhere wont get me a very nice Corrado 16v, which is the car im after. If i cant get a Corrado, id just as well keep the Golf. Catch 22 situation.

Id like to see it drive away within the next month TBH - i know someone in Newcastle whos selling a red Corrado 16v for £1500. Im awaiting photos as its a 5 hour drive from me, but if its all ok ill be going up to collect it - thing is, if its NOT all ok, ill end up with not enough to buy a more pricey one!

Don't be pressured into selling for less money than you want for it. If you've had that many enquiries in the first week I would give it a couple of weeks aleast before you go that low.
This guy sounds like he's playing hardball and will walk away from it if you don't accept his offer. Well don't accept his offer and let him walk away or come back with a better offer.
Don't forget that this is your pride and joy he's trying to screw you out of. You are probably right about him being a dealer and he doesn't want to pay more that £1100 'cos he knows it's worth £1400/£1500 and he wants to see atleast £300 profit.

Advertise it in Performance VW www.performancevwmag.com/ (free photo ads)or the Golf. There are plenty in there that are much more expensive than yours, and from what you have said in worse nick.
Good luck with the Corrado hunt, be very wary of cheap cars though, a duff Corrado will empty your wallet in no time at all.

I've not seen you're advert, so don't know what you've added to it, but you're probably not doing yourself any favours by announcing the fact that you only paid £900 for the car less than 12months ago and now want two thirds more back for it
I know it can be a pain selling your pride and joy, you really do believe it's worth more than it is. A friend of mine tried to sell his 1990 Golf GTi 16v a couple of years ago and it was immaculate, but he wanted the price he thought it was worth and not what it was actually worth. He put it in the VW magazines and didn't get a sniff, upshot being he still has it and will probably run it into the ground. The problem you will always have is setting it at the right price to get people to come and see it. Once they turn up, the car should sell itself if its as good as you say. If you price it too high no-one is going to see it to know how tidy it is.
I had the same problem with my Corrado VR6 and ended up giving it away to a Merc dealership, knowing full well that somebody somewhere would be getting what I thought was a damn fine, cheap car and somebody somewhere would make money out of the deal to boot!
Speaking of Corrado's, why waste your money on an old clapped out 16v when you could get a small loan and buy the real thing, the VR6. You can get them cheaply nowadays and they are a whole world of difference compared to the 16v.
Finally, whereabouts are you based? If I sell my current car, hopefully in the next couple of weeks, I am thinking of running a Golf GTi for a few months whilst I save for a TVR. If your not too far and you still have it, I could be interested in yours.
