RE: Rinspeed Bedouin
Monday 17th February 2003
Rinspeed have just released some photos of their Bedouin concept. We've previously seen sketches of the car, but this is the first time we've seen the 996 derived vehicle for real.
The car is a showcase for a number of companies that Rinspeed have brought together for the design exercise. Production is unlikely, Rinspeed's concepts are usually produced to showcase their engineering talents.
Several ideas are explored with the car, with the fuel system being one of the more unlikely for a Porsche derived car. The Bedouin uses a natural gas powered version of Porsche's twin turbo engine - enough grunt to propel the heavy Bedouin to 60mph in under 6 seconds.
The bodywork is the aspect that will draw the most attention however. That tailgate is motorised allowing the rear section to fold down to provide the floor of the cargo area, whilst the front section folds back to become the rear window. The 185cm load area could also be used as a bed according to Rinspeed...
It's a pretty barking concept, but will no doubt continue to attract plenty of coverage for Rinspeed.
