Rover 420 gsi - Once starts wont keep running?!

Hi All

Boyfriends 420 P Reg Rover went wrong the other day. He was driving over to me and all of a sudden smoke started pouring out. When he looked at engine there was a lot of oil and no water. Found that the core plugs had gone so has replaced these, skimmed head and put new gaskets etc.

Goes to try and start it today and it is still the same. Whinnes when trying to start and when it does start it goes to run and then stops automatically. Any ideas appreciated..

Hi try www.rovertech.net great forum there to help with any queries.. to be honest info you have given is vague, and could be any number of things.. has he double checked timing on cams and crankshaft ?..
