I've had enough of pissing in the wind, complaining about motoring issues..
Most of the UK population are evidently beguiled by Tony & Ken's grand plans. Those who can see the wood for the trees are in a truly tiny minority.
Speed Cameras don't reduce road deaths. Congestion Charging is no substitute for investment in public transport. Traffic Calming has many more negative effects than it has benefits. Speed limits are entrusted to people who collect stamps and make scones for excitement. Our economic growth will be on it's arse as soon as transport growth has been successfully stemmed by Tony & Ken.
Well.. fine.. whatever.. doesn't matter what we say or do, we'll be steam-rolled by virtue of the majority, who are too busy dribbling into their TV dinners whilst concerning themselves with the occurences of Arsenders or Flourination Street to worry about the real impact of policy. Oh and they'll always find time to Think of the Children.
We're being drowned in mediocrity. Where's my flamethrower?

Do you honestly think anyone in the country gives a shit about anything important?
Nope they are all busy jumping on bandwagons and being numpties. I suggest we all chip together and buy an island somewhere, nice and big for a few roads. We can make it a tax haven to attract lots of business, if we all live there then there will be lots of well skilled people to make it work (we can relocate the PH server to keep global internet traffic in check).
And of course no government unless you'd like me to be a very benign dictator (we can call the capital daviddville and celebrate my birthday by banning all cars from the streets so everyone has a good excuse to get utterly pissed).
Or you could do it then when you walked into the bar we could say......
'hail CZeeer' arf...

Ian - you're right, of course but look; if there's no opportunity to vent the old spleen every so on with generally like minded individuals, it would be even worse!
I personally do and will do something about it - I vote for the other bunch* (yes, utterly hapless au moment but at least it's 'something'); which is about all one can do, legally.
Plus, any debate that yields stuff like "people who collect stamps or make scones for excitement" has a droll edge to it also, which has it's own distinct, innate value, I find.
So moan & groan away. You know it makes sense!

* Of course, in the possibly misguided belief that Foo-Chow Mein Smith & Co will be at least 10% less hopeless than Smilers Inc.
Anyway, moaning is vaguely cathartic and sooner or later, either the politicos MIGHT take note, or, Carzee will actually stand for high office.

I've got involved with the ABD, I write frequently to politicians and the press. I vote. I give to organisations whose causes I support.
I'm just disillusioned with the seeming unstoppability of the erosive tide of liberalist bile, perpetually washing up onto the shore of our freedom and ebbing away again, each time taking some of our liberty with it.
I'm frustrated at mass indifference, apparent gullability and the pervasive malevolent reach and focus of the media. I'm furious at the implacability of our government.

The trouble is we get the govt we deserve by populous vote
Often we vote in a party whose ideals we associate with and then find that after we get them in they have another agenda to which we would never aspire and then look at the inadequate opposition who have become irrevelant and think they may do a better job....for who them or us ?
Govts love mediocrity and jingoism, it keeps them in control, the brighter section of the communities can see through to the bigger picture and are often lampooned for speaking up if the govt of the day perceives a threat from such thinking by getting the media on side.
Take citizen Murdoch for example, he will do anything for the govt of the day (left, right he doesn't care) so long as they will give him what he wants he will put forward the story the govt wants.
The media are the true enemy of the thinking people so writing to them only highlights the number they are up against and how much effort they have to put into the numpties to make your point irrevelant and thereby making the thinking people become frustrated and eventually give up.
Don't give up the fight Carzee or lose the drive and ambition to make this world a better informed place, remember the only dumb question is the one that hasn't been asked, I know, I don't ask enough questions.

You're not the only one CZ, please DO care, you may not feel like you're getting anywhere, I may not agree with all you post, but you're bloody entertaining, have a rarely seen passion for things you feel strongly about, and have an inbuilt gift (along with the perhaps more verbose DeRes) tosuccinctly state your views and I'd rather read your stuff and shout 'yay' or 'nay' than have to take in some other mediocre form of communication and discussion as perpetuated by the print media at the moment.
