Well the 996 has gone
.
The sale was brokered by Joel at RSJ Sports Cars and I just wanted to give the man some credit. You should know by now that I'm no fan of used car dealers but he really is about as good as they get, he achieved a very good price considering the mileage of the car and the commision was not exorbitant. Don't get me wrong, he's still a thieving git
, but I'd recommend him to anybody.
I've driven a couple of Turbo 2's now. Bags of character, great fun getting them onto boost and the brakes are f***ing unbelievable.
I even went to see the one at Henry's place. He wasn't there but I met Tom and I have to say he didn't really rub me up the wrong way. I know Domster can't stand him but I thought he was ok. He was quite honest about their stock and although I can understand why people might say he comes across as arrogant (i.e. I phoned and asked the mileage of the car, he replied "whatever you want it to be, it's from Germany so you can't take any notice of the speedo"), he didn't make me want to leave there and then, like he does Scottster.
Anyone with any other ideas of how to spend £20K ish (or less) to get me back into Porkerland, feel free to comment, especially if you know of specific cars for sale. I want something "interesting". No Domster, I don't want an RS, I think they're wonderful but over priced.
Be quick or I might start thinking about a TVR

Okay, to avoid the obvious 968CS route, i'll suggest two alternatives.
1) Buy a good solid 944 Turbo, have the engine rebuilt and get some work done. I've heard that the 220bhp model can be got to 300bhp without too much trouble, and even 330bhp is plausible. You can imagine, a 330bhp 944 Turbo goes quite well. Maybe someone like Ninemeister can advise on this.
2)Buy a "vanilla" 964 and supercharge it.
Funny, i'm leaning towards forced induction and yet i own a n/a 993. Might just have to change that...

No....not the Tiv...
Get a Turbo 2. They are OK, and not overpriced on the used market as you correctly judge RSs to be. (Relatively speaking, as they did cost 63k in 1993!).
However, I would suggest you drive a 964RS if you haven't driven one. Drive one, then walk away and buy the Turbo 2 if you want. You may kick yourself if you don't.
Anyway, I have emailed you details of two T2s I know of for sale. One very nice 400bhp example. Cracking car and more midrange than the Baron, although I gained a bit in the upper rev reaches.
Best value is standard 964C2. Don't supercharge it - the reports for driving characteristics and engine longevity aren't very good from what I have heard. Maybe 9M will prove me wrong, but his mate Adrian Palmer doesn't like them much.
More power for a C2? I have the Roock chip, silencer bypass pipe, tailpipe and KN filter from the Baron if you want them for a bargain hunt price. I would suggest a retune to your engine at a friendly rolling road, but these could be helpful.
Otherwise, Scottster's old 993 was up for 20k recently, and you may know the history of that one

Whats wrong with a RHD 968 Club sport, still looks good, more exclusive than many 911s (less of them around)ok it's only got four cylinders but it's got plenty of grunt (& is a great driver's car) for less than your 20k, you can spend the rest on some mods.Or buy a nice "cruisy" woofly Chimera for summer & then get into the 968 later in the year !!!
Hey, well done Mr H the G,
C'mon over next weekend and give the CS a spin, you know you'll love it. Our MD at work has decided to go for one too (wanted me to sell him mine
) so the competition for gooduns is hotting up!!
If you can't meet one weekend we'll have to hook up after we take the Arse to pieces (nothing sick there, Herman will know what I mean)

Scottster,
Is the blue CS in classifieds the one you went to look at last year, i.e. the one that was in Autocar ?
Can't share your optimism I'm afraid. I'm beaten before the game has started. I think the players feel the same way. Never know, maybe their team coach will crash on the way to the ground, no deaths you understand, just season long injuries

Friend of mine has simply installed a Guru Racing Eproms kit (turbo boost is around 1.1 bar) + an adjustable fuel pressure regulator on his 1990 250hp Turbo and it flies:
- below 3000rpm: feels like a 944S2/968
- 3000rpm->4000rpm: feels like a stock 250 on full charge
- >4000rpms: you have to be in it to believe it!

Having lurked on here for a while I now find myself being prompted to post, but on a completely non-Porsche topic:
Are you all bloody Man.Utd. fans on here? - I hope not!
Seriously, it's been a real education reading some of your posts and trawling through the old stuff, and as a (relatively) new Porsche owner - Got mine, A '96 993 C4 last November - it's been invaluable.
Incidentally, my football allegiances should be obvious from my reg.plate:

Yer, nice motor but would defo ditch the plate.
It's silly I know but have you had any trouble with the plate?? - Most members of the pondlife community don't need an excuse to abuse a fine piece of Pork and with that plate you're adding to the number of people who dislike you....
ps: Although that sounded sarcastic it was meant seriously!
pps: Glad we've had a bit of banter about footy on PH - was starting to think everyone was 'anti-footy, cricket loving nonses'

Scottster, I had the plate on my previous car (an E36 M3 Evo) for a couple of years before the 993, and I haven't had any trouble up until now.
When I go to the footy I always park in some sort of secure car park - NEVER leave the car on the public highway so to speak - there are some right plebs at footy matches these days, and just the car would be provocation enough for some of them, never mind the plate!
I'd just like to order a new car so that I can put AR53 NAL on it
Driving up to the match last night I was passed by a VERY nice looking silver 996 on the M4 heading into the smoke with the plate GT02 HOT - didn't get a good view but my lad reckons it was a turbo or GT2 - lovely.
