I took a picture the other night that I'd really like to improve, it was the last picture before the battery went and basically what happened is it flashed but was too far away to do much so it came out really dark. So far I played around with some kind of level/threshold curve and got it looking much better, but it still looks quite grainy and lacking in detail. Have tried playing around with 'despeckle' and smoothing but it makes it worse if anything.. Is there anything else I can try to improve it or am I jiggered?

Cheers
Neil

Rescuing a pic is usually always a compromise on quality v detail so depends on how bad it is really. Once you have the exposire correction sorted, there is noise reduction software such as NeatImage which can work wonders without losing too much sharpness if used sparingly.

Best option is to pop it up here in its original form and also your best effort so far and let some others have a go as there are some on here who are a bit whizz with the old 'shop. That's assuming of course it is not of a "adult" nature.....

in which case you best just email it

It wont let me "Save target as" so I can't work on it. Sorry.

You should use 'Save Picture As'.

I just had a look at the image, and I think it would be easier to re-shoot.

EDIT:
I had a quick go at it, and this is probably as good as it can get.

Thanks Gemm, that's better than I managed! We don't all manage to get together very often and it was kind of a special occasion, still lesson learned...

Thanks again

Oh dear! there seems to be a whole group of people in the way of that landscape.... going to be quite a job to clone them all out.

Best take a torch next time so that you can see if anyone's in the way of your subject...
