I'm looking at buying a second car soon and can't seem to come up with one that answers my particular needs. These are:

Competitive in power/weight ratio in class, as I will use it in sprints and hillclimbs.
Decent MPG, as I would like to use it for the 17 mile commute to work along country lanes for at least some of the year.
Some sort of security - ie locks and windows.
Decent wet weather kit.
Costs around £10K

I narrowed the list down to:

Sylva Stylus
Fisher Fury
Ginetta - not sure which model
Lotus Elise

The Fury appeals, but it looks like being completely impractical - I don't want a car that I can only use on track, or for a Sunday morning spin. Likewise the Sylva, and the Ginetta, but I will stand corrected if anyone can contradict this assertion.

Which leaves the Elise. I suppose this would be perfect, I have some concerns about the Elise, after hearing stories of minor off track excursions resulting in replacement chassis and big bills.

So does anyone have any opinions, or can suggest any alternatives (I don't like 7 style cars, by the way, so Caterhams/Westfields and similar are out).

Thanks,

I hate the fact good cars are now cheaper than the one I bought

Strip a Libra out and you'll end up with a very light, very quick little car.
