Hi,

I am having problems starting the Tiv.

Have checked the following.....

Fuel pump whirs when ignition is turned on.
Getting a spark at the plugs when cranking.
Engine turns over at 'normal speed'
Injectors are getting pulsed during cranking.
Dizzy cap is clean
Rotor arm is unmarked.

But absolutely diddly squat, not even trying to fire.

Guess the immobiliser could be playing up but wouldnt this inhibit the spark?.

could be the ECU although the injectors are getting pulses and the fuel pump is operating.

Could the leads need replacing? (if this was the case surely one or two would be OK and there would be some semblance of firing)

Any ideas welcomed.

Cheers,

Gav

Hi Gav, Not great at this but if the fuel pump is priming and the engine turns over then its not the alarm/immobiliser!!, I presume you have checked the obvious i.e. enough fuel in it!!, Very simple I know but the fuel gauges have been known to be inaccurate!!!
Other than that I am not too sure, When did you last use it??

Hi RCA,

I has been a few months since I have started the beast.
I have checked that fuel is getting to the injector rail, is it possible that the injectors be blocked.

The plugs did look a bit wet, however they are relatively new.

Is there a good way of testing the spark intensity, maybe it is too weak (perhaps duff coil, or old leads, they are a couple of years old admittedly)

Maybe the airflow meter is giving a wrong value to the ECU.

Just need a few pointers to avoid buying new bits that aint faulty.

Cheers,

Gav

Something lik this came up recently. One thing you could do is the old "clean the stepper motor" This is because it is the thing that raises the throttle enough to start the engine. Without it you may simply not get enough mixture in the cylinders.

Or just put your foot down when you start it :-)
