2001 v 2002+ Cerb

Hi all

Can anyone clarify the difference between a 2001 Cerb and a 2002+ Cerb- i have searched everywhere for answer and they seem a bit conflicting/vague at times. I know the integration of new headlamps is one of them...but anything else? Upgrades done? 4.5ltr is the one I am talking about.

i know the 2001 has the headlamp pods but not built into the body. Does the 2001 have any suspension mods, air circulation mods etc? Compared to pre-2001 models? Do they call this the lightweight still?

any clarification would be great as i have a friend who has a choice between the 2 model years and he is trying to justify the extra 7k for the 2002, we are not getting much help on the subject from the dealer over here in Tokyo.

These are some of the differences that I know about, I'm not sure if these are for the 2001, or the 2002 model.

A narrower roll bar across the top of the windscreen, so from inside the windscreen appeared wider.

18" Spider wheels

Tuscan Seats

Some had a button on the dash to switch between 95 and 98 octane petrol, this may just have been the Red Rose model.


If I'm wrong I'm sure other PH'ers will clarify later on, I'm just trying to help rather than set myself up as a Cerb Model expert :-)

It's kind of confusing for me too, as the 2001 we looked at has Spiders and Tuscan seats, so the dress-up stuff is obvious, but don7t know about below the surface. will have to take a look at the Roll bar again. thanks for that.

The LW models first appeared very late in 1999, and benefitted from Tuscan seats, 18" spiders, revised front end etc. A couple of years later, I think all 4.5's became LW's. In about 2004 the headlights were blended into the body work.

Sorry to confuse, but mine is a 2000 with tuscan seats, spiders, and non faired in pods as standard.

What about the roll bar, is it the narrower type?
From my knowledge the narrower rollbar is on the lightweights and sp6 cars.

Also worth pointing out, about the seats, is that its not just the front seats that are different, the rears are slightly different too on the lightweights.

I agree with most of this. However the Alloys were still Race Lines and TVR had only started to offer 18" versions on the first Lightweights in late 99 - I know as this is what I had fitted as an upgrade option. There were no Spiders available back then as an option from official TVR dealerships. And I think factory blending in of the headlights took place in 2003 and onwards.

Any Cerbs older than 2003 with blended Headlights has had them done at some later date. Most Cerbs suffer from front end stone chips and many get a front end resprays at some point and hence some may elect to have the blending done.

Yep the front roll bar is a lot smaller giving the appearance of a flat plate at the top of the screen rather than a tube.

Red Rose only it is, fitted just below and to thge left of the stereo head unit for factory ones and most often in the cubby near the alarm overide for those upgraded later on.

I beleive that some rear suspension mods were made late in 2001, which I guess was to stop the cars with spiders having the wheels bang against the wheelarch. They also changed around some of the electronics (on mine anyway) so I've got a Tuscan fusebox, but to confuse things more the fuses aren't in the Tuscan positions!

A 2001 car will have come with 40 (rather than 35) profile 18inch tyres and maybe even tuscan front and rear wheels (rather than 4 x fronts).
Cant see the beenfit of 7K extra between two lightweights unless newer one has better spec , lower miles, better condition, loads of extras (Nitrons, Red Rose...)
