Was on my usual way to work this morning and as it was sunny decided have the top down. Whilst stuck in traffic, a cabbie decided to make contact! Instead of the normal chat of "nice car, how fast etc" it was "i've got a porsche" "its more reliable than yours" "your paddleshift clutch is gonna burn" "look, you have a V8 but you're no faster than me" etc!!!!

Talk about black cab abuse! the worse thing was that I couldn't even get away! In the end I put the top up!

Has any other Maserati owners had the same "my Porsche is better than yours" crap?

Its fairly obvious he saw you looking cool in your drop top Maserati and felt less of a man stuck in his black cab.

Therefore he tried to make himself feel better by ruining your day and trying to be the big man.

Ignore him.

(P.S. I always knew taxis charge faaar too much money).

Black cab abuse! Now that's a new one.

You should have been polite and replied that, as Audi's track record of reliability has traditionally been very good, you can only but assume that his 1982 924 would be more reliable than the Maserati.

I drive into the City every day from the "east" and the abuse is usually directed from me to them based on their belief that they are far above the highway code rules that us mere mortals have to adhere to when driving.

Or...
'Yes mr cabbie I can see a definate pattern emerging here in your choice of car both are invariably spec'd in black or silver, they are both a very common sight and both spend most of their time stuck in traffic jams in the city'

Ive had this situation a few times, really annoys me.At the end of the day you are driving a Maserati,he is driving a piece of s!!t.The only Porsche he owns is probably a Corgi or Matchbox model or at best a tatty one that isnt worth a carrot.A lot of years ago my brother had a brand new rolls royce and being a bit of a scary bloke did not stand for any jealous nonsense of any kind.A few times he had been known to jump out of the car and lamp any big mouthed idiot-they always went very quiet after he did that!!

some of those black cabbies do earn a fair old whack....you'd be very surprised. Bear in mind it's a essentially a cash business as well. Not that I am insinuating that they are on the fiddle.....................

hahahaha - you get upset?

I've had comments like that loads of times (well the "you arent going any faster than me in your flash car in this traffic jam" ones.) I always laugh and agree and then comment on how toss my car is for some other reason.

They leave feeling pleased.....and I dont care!

exactly - why should you care - you're in the nice car after all! I think a few more people round here need to learn to appreceate that point - especially reading the 'my car is a supercar so ner' thread....

As the guys say, just don't rise to it.. anything will keep up with you in traffic.. if they persist, give it a bit of the loud pedal, and then turn up the stereo!! they really are just upset that you are in a classy car!!

Had an amusing instance with a Cayenne on the A12 the other day - he was far too close, I mean really close - I don't subscribe to the 'slam on breaks' rule, as I don't want to inflame a situ - get far more pleasure out of seeing them dissappear in my rear view mirror each time the road was clear!!!

Yup. Being in a TVR, I offer them some of the trim that has fallen off as a souvenir.

:chuckle: quality! I don't reckon most people make comments like that in a 'bad' way anyhow...most of em are just having a laugh with you cos it's something to do. Have to say the rudest and most uptight drivers/owners i've met have all had flash cars and think it somehow means something about them.....

Does anyone really care what a black cab driver thinks?

They have an opinion on everything, but generally know FA about anything

Doesn't matter who it was - that type of behaviour is regretable. There are true car enthusisasts (like the vast majority of those on this forum) and people like this cabbie. The difference is that the former will enjoy someone else's car whether or not it is "superior", "inferior" or unaffordable.

Nothing disturbs me more than the "have nots" of the world who simply cannot enjoy a thing of beauty that they cannot have or do not own. Be grateful that someone of similar ilk with a key didn't walk past your car, with an intent to bring some "equality" into his life.

Pathetic.
