Race Car Trailer / Transporter

Sorry to be a pain with these sort of questions guys but I'm not sure what trailer I need to go for to be used for TVR Race Car transportation:

What make/model of trailer is going to work, what do you use?
Does anybody have one to sell or know anybody who wants to sell one? Word of mouth always works better for a buyer than a classified ad.

I have looked at the classifieds on PH and EBay but there's nothing local to me in Poole and I don't know what limitations there are based on things like ground clearance etc...

I'm only looking at the second had market as I can't spend more than £5-700. Not even sure if it's possible to do for that money???

I think you'll struggle to get one for that money.

You need something that is 6ft 1" wide and 14ft long to accomodate a Tuscan. Its a wide car !

I'd recommend a hydraulic tilt bed for that reason..... so you can winch it on very slowly because you only have about 1" clearance either side. I bought a Fountain 420 which is excellent. There are some nice Brenderup trailers appear on eBay fairly regularly. Brian James come up as well but seem to go for more moeny and arene't any better. Expect to pay between £1000 if your lucky up to £1500.

Its worth getting a decent trailer though IMHO.

I looked for ages for a second hand trailer for the Tuscan, but the few that did come up either weren't wide enough or were in dire condition (for big money still).

Given my trailer has to fit through a single garage door (I have a single door out the back of my garage into the back garden with more hard standing) a normal 'wheels at the sides' trailer wouldn't fit...plus just towing a wide trailer in traffic is a pain so I went for a flatbed with wheels underneath. Cheapest I could find in the UK was a Wessex from these guys here www.trailertek.com/trailers_cartransporters.php and given that it was a 900 mile round trip for em to pick it up you've got to beleive this was the best deal I could find in the UK! Mine isn't the beavertail, but has the ramps stowed. The Tuscan fits and the whole caboodle is about the same width as the pickup so I can largely forget it's there. However, the Tuscan is sufficiently low at the front that even with the front of the trailer lifted up on the jockey wheel I still need a couple of wooden blocks at the end of the ramps to stop the underneath of the bonnet fouling.

I was very happy with the Woodford trailer I had - it wasn't the tilt model and I had no problems with the ramp angle for loading.

I tried to buy a second hand traler at about this time of year in 2003 and failed miserably - ended up buying new.

My old open trailer was a heavy duty Brian james, non tilt with ramps, and the tuscan went on that fine, it was quite a long trailer though. Iains :cough: bought that one though.

My current box trailer is a bit narrow as its a standard width trailer thats been modified with the box fitted inside so its lost an inch or so. The box trailer was an ebay purchase 1200 quid, but its a good quality woodfield tilt trailer underneath.

Open trailers are easier to load, tow and possibly store a cover trailer has the advantage the car doesnt get covered in crap whilst being towed, you can live in it at the circuit, and you can store the car in it...

Thanks for your help so far guys. Looks like I may have to re-visit my budget, meanwhile hiring at £30 for a weekend fits the bill. I'll keep my eyes peeled.

30 quid for a weekend is quite a good price.


with say 10 races a year thats only 300 quid and no maint or storage to worry about.


i'd expect to find a usable 2nd hand trailer for 750-1k
