How well does the E36 interior last?

I went with a friend to look at a cheapy 316 today.
'95 with 145,000 miles. thing was, I could not believe how worn the seats and steering wheel are. Driver's seat worn through cloth on side bolster, and pax seat worn out in the middle of the front of the seat?? Also the leather on the steering wheel worn through at the 4 o'clock posn.

My '94 E36 138,000 miles has none of this, but maybe it's 'cause it's leather?. And worn out leather on steering wheel - is that normal at that sort of mileage?

My personal little chariot has now covered 101,000mls and apart from a tiny amount of leather cracking on the driver seat bolster it looks as good as new!!!
