I'd second suggestion to use the ARP K-head bolts, it means there's enough space to get a ratchet ring spanner on most of them and that makes the job dramatically easier.

Just don't forget to use copaslip on the threads - stainless and alloy don't go well together.

I think TVR Car Parts sell them, and it's always good to support the specialists. Failing that, Peninsula (although I suspect they'll send you back to TVR Car Parts), or Real Steel, or probably any of the other RV8 specialists, or anyone who deals with ARP.

Just fitted new SS manifolds and can recommend these SS manifold bolts.

Looking on this site www.arrowprecision.co.uk/search.php to compare prices and the ease of ordering online. I have typed in AZ 325 as I believe that is the ARP part no, but it brings up an array of Bolts, Can anyone help me.

Im not a metallurgist or however you spell it but I wouldnt use stainless in alloy. And that came from a pretty senior ngineer at BMW.

Also I cant see the point in spending £30 quid on bolts when your probably aint gonna touch them for 5 years if youre lucky??

I got a set of 16 non-stainless for about 3 quid.

Thats exactly what put me off them.I was also told similar by someone far more knowlegeable than me.In the end i just used the originals,with some copaslip on the threads

If you mean Coefficient of thermal (linear?) expansion (CLE?), stainless steel is pretty much the same as any other steel ie @ 12micron/m/degreeC (Aluminium alloy is @ 24). Mr BMW may have been referring to corrosion problems? - stainless steel corrodes like mad but forms a "passive" oxide layer which eventually covers the steel and prevents further corrosion. It may be that when you bolt it to aluminium the passive layer is restricted from forming - I don't really know, but I wouldn't have thought there would be any more problems with stainless than with normal high-tensile steel!

Red thats my point, 12 against 24, but i suspect, as you say BMW man is refering to the corrosive nature of ss but once the oxide layer is in place the corrosion is suppressed.
