Is it normal that an insurance company increases the premiums by 40% after a claim, even though I protect my no claims bonus and pay a hefty 500 GBP excess.
They seem to think that this is normal and acceptable.
anyone else experienced this, the claim was my fault in so far as I spun the car due to a sticking rear brake caliper piston( thats another sad story)

Protected NCB is just that - a protected bonus - or discount. But paying to protect the percentage discount doesn't stop the premium to which the discount applies going up! Sadly in the eyes of the insurance company you have increased your risk - hence a higher premium applies pre-discount. Have to say, however, 40% increase for one non-fault claim sounds a lot. Try elsehwere.
