Looking into getting into Formula Vee and i was just wondering if anyone could advise me on whether to stick with a normal "wet" car battery or get a "dry" battery such as the Varley Red Top???
Put it this way you have an off and the wet battery splits. Acid everywhere. Even worse if it is mounted inside the car to optimise weight distribution. Go for a dry or gel cell.
Sorry just noticed it is a formula Vee - you have to get a proper race battery.

Always go for a red top both for the reasons identified with the danger of acid spills of normal batteries, plue the huge saving that can be made in weight too.
