The battery on my 3G iPod has finally given up the ghost. I've just ordered a replacement which should arrive this week.
Has anyone replaced one before? Any pitfalls/gotchas to look out for?

Thanks,
J.

There is a comprehensive guide at www.ipoddoctor.co.uk I've never done it myself but looking at the pdf's on that site would give me the confidence to.

Pick up a couple of thin guitar picks. Dead useful for wedging the sides open whilst you finish prizing the rear off.
Also once you get the rear off it removes the 'lock' tab and leaves behind in my case a very flappy slide switch, best to wedge it with a bit of bluetack or something so the thing doesn't accidently turn on whilst your disconnecting the battery.

I bought a battery from them once, it came with a small tool to prise the casing apart (4th Gen) - very easy, if a little disconcerting when you first see the casing coming apart! If yours doesn't come with a tool, then I agree, a thick guitar pick would do the same job.

Cheers guys.
The kit comes with a selection of interesting looking tools and a video of how to do the swap.
Was just interested in whether anybody had experienced any problems which weren't covered by the instructions.

Fingers crossed it'll be as straightforward as it sounds.

Ta,
J.
