Lightweight protective clothing?

I'm in a bit of trouble at the mo. My zip has broken on my leathers, so I'm having to wear my textile suit. However, this is like a feckin duvet, and I'm losing weight by the minute...Very uncomfortable, but I refuse to compromise my safety (Personal opinion, you understand). Has anyone got any recommendations, that ain't gonna cost millions?

Where are you based? - it might be more use to get a recommendation on who could fix your leathers, than what else to buy.

Well, I live in Billericay, Essex and work in London. I've heard that Jimmy's heel bar in Gants Hill do the repairs in double quick time, but I can't find it!! That would be handy bearing in mind I ride past there every day!!!

The Falco went there with her first owner, clearly he was a smart fellow, as the ride quality is I've just got to sort the SV out now. What's interesting to me is how marked the difference between the two bikes. I've got various bits of an R1 and GSXR-750 that will go on the SV to build a better (proper?) USD front end. Now I've seen what's possible with the Falco I will be aiming for at least the same standard on the SV. Like all of my projects this will probably take some time ....

I'm not a sports bike rider, I have 3 cruiser/tourer types and have ridden in extreme heat in August in Texas, Arizona, New Mexico etc and tried all types of protective clothing. My personal view is the BMW range of hot weather gear can't be beat.

I've just gone over the 100,000 mile mark, taken me 6 years, 80,000 of those on my 2000 model Yamaha Venture. For jackets, I like the BMW Airflow more than anything else but I don't like the Airflow trousers, instead I have the Black Denim jeans that they do. I also use the Airflow boots.

SPC BMW in Caterham have a sale on at the minute with 40% off on a lot of the stock. I just got some new black jeans and boots as I've put a lot of miles on my old ones. BMW also have a new Summer trouser that look like combat trousers with good armour so I grabbed a pair of them to try as well. For gloves, I found the Airflow ones not that good but again have just got a pair of Rallye 2 gloves and they seem pretty good so far.
