Hi guys,

Seen a few cracking pics on here where people have shots of the camera mounted onto the car, so I thought I would give this a go in my street!

I took loads of shots but none worked, (see example below!)

Anyone got advice on how to get this kind of shot, suggested shutter speeds etc. Better to be going round a corner?, car speeds etc. Is it better to use a longer shutter speed and push the car, I would have thought even driving the car slowly could cause enough bumping to get shaky pictures?.

Best example (shows how bad the rest were!!) Please dont mock it was my first attempt! Neighbours probably also think im bonkers going up and down street with camera on outside of car. I was also using the self timer, so cue me starting timer on 10 secs, jumping into car and driving. The Nikon remote doesnt seem to work very well! Oh and also I was using polarizing filter but still couldnt get rid of the reflection on the side of the car!

Thanks a lot

I havent got round to going out side and trying this yet but did have a play in the garage to see what might work.

Took this with a Nikon D70, 18-70mm lens (set to 18mm) shutter speed about 4 seconds, used the timer and pushed the car (with out the engine running so it didnt vibrate the camera)

I must go out and try it now.

Thats very cool!

You certainly got lots of 'swooosh'!, I was struggling to find a shutter speed that blurred the background but didnt burn out the sky or bits of the car!

One other question, did you have the suction mount on the paintwork of the car? Does this not cause any problems?

try doing it later on in the day so that its darker or a carpark. you combine long exposure with slow car movement either push or just above tick over in 1st. going faster induces camera shack

Start the car
Accelerate to 10-15 mph
Put in neutral
Turn off the engine
Snap away at half a second- 2 second shutter as car gracefully comes to a halt (might want to use an ND to get this slow in the day time)

matt - beautiful pics - i think the 1st one is just stunning. that would be one to enlarge to poster size and frame it on the wall.

Cheers. I've got a few shots now that I would like to get printed but I just never get round to it, and then I go off them and dont like them anymore. All my shots are just gathering dust on my harddrive.

Matt,

How do you fire off the shots? Do you use a remote control from inside the car. My remote on my D70 seems to have a range of 2 inches, and thats when it works at all!

I either use a home made only wired release or walk next to the car while someone else drives it...Made a special exception for mr carter and ran like an oaf through enormous piles of shit.
