we have small mac netork of 11 imacs and an xserve server. I would like to connect this to our windows 2003 network and have one log on so users on macs can use their active direc credentials. apple centre say they can do this but its notoriousely flaky and only 1/3 logins would work first time without having someone there to tinker ev 2 mins. is this true as our knowledge of macs is rather poor?

Not true from my experience. Although there can be a few other issues.

wot he said ^^^^^^
There are some issues that need to be sorted but its not as flaky as the Apple Centre make out.

I've seen it play nicely and I've seen it very flaky. It seems to depend on the relationship between the W2K PDC and the catalogue server, but I never got to the bottom of it.
Good luck.

It's not flaky *as long as you have a recent version of OS X* on the Macs. Early versions (10.0 to 10.2) had earlier versions of Samba and Directory Services and *were* flaky.
If you're running Tiger and Tiger Server then you should have no trouble integrating the machines.
