Sony Video Cam - Downloads

Is it me or is it a complete ballache to download from the tape in the camera to the pc or CD?

Have spent a fair bit of time using the sony software provided and I havent been successful yet, could just be me but any suggestions for making life easier?

Ignore the Sony software.

If you are on Wndoze XP... plug the camera in, wait a while for it to be recognised, open windoze movie maker, then 'capture from video device' this will put them into a window ready to edit. Easy peezy.
