MS Word 2003 page numbering problems

Having some trouble with a report I'm working on in MS Word.

I've put in auto page numbering, which works fine except that it goes from page 7 to 9, missing out page 8.

When printing, a blank page comes through between 7 and 9.

The numbering also starts as page 3 on what is the second page, the first being a title.

googled for 'missing pages', 'incorrect numbering' and similar, but not very fruitful.

Any ideas what's gone wrong?

Hard page break?
Section break with new page for next section?

Thanks - it was a section break. Never heard of them before.
