Just got myself a chimaera this week, and while washing the hood, the stitching came undone leaving my hood away from the window.

I live in Fife, has anyone had to get a new back window put in?

I would appreciate your help, as my husband does not know I have done this

Not had the stiching fail, but my screen split after folding it one very cold minters morning. There have been a couple of other threads like this, and i think its just down to the stiching rotting away over time.

Whats the condition of the plastic (is it nice and clear, or scuffed and opaque?) as if it's in good nick, you could just re-stich. If the screen is 'tired' then it's a good opertunity to have a new one stiched in before the winter comes.

The 'new screen' option will require the rear hood section removing, off the hoop etc, and it's quite a fiddly job. I took mine off myself and had a new screen stiched in by a trimmer in Newcastle (cost about £80, but i did all the fitting myself!), but getting it done professionally, is likely to cost £400 ish.

PM me if you need the contact for the Newcastle trimmer, but i'm sure there are others more local....

Thanks so much for your prompt replies. Just been discussing it with hubby, and yes the screen is tired so he said probably a blessing in diguise, and we will get the plastic window replaced. He thought of the idea of buying some of the plastic from somewhere and getting a saddler to stitch it in. Just an idea.

This is my first TVR and the first thing to go wrong in the first week. lol

Do TVR supply the plastic windows? Is it something that I can buy myself and have it fitted by a saddler?

I panicked when i did mine just washing it like you and the corner just give way, it happens, the stitching just rots if u dont keep it waterproofed and i think some car shampoos rot it quicker, it took me ages to hand stitch it but its held!!!
the people who are doing mine are totaly recovering the targa and back section plus a new screen with seals and fabsil for £500,
guess it depends where you go but i think restiching and a replacement screen would be alot less. (im changing the colour of mine thats why im getting it all done!!)

I have a Boxster S at the moment, and must admit for the past three years have used fabsil on the hood and it works. This chimaera has not been so lucky.

Another thing that I use on my Boxster is hindsight. It is amazing and really kept the plastic screen supple

See if you used hindsight, you'd probably go back to Otto

Lyns thanks for that

I had no intention of changing my Porsche, but when I heard the chimaera ( now called Taffy after a friend of mine ) I just fell in love with it.

Jane ...........just luv it drive it and if there are any problems ,hey c'est la vie. TVR's are infamous for little glitches but renowned for noise and performance thrills.
