And from looking at the result I have to ask why the guys with the Vauxhall monaro are still even bothering???

Someone is spending a hell of a lot of money on that car for what i can see as no reason, its never ever going to be competitive.

I'm not going to join the people who knock EE for their efforts with the Monaro, when your two opponents in the GT2 are very well funded teams that have had excellent results in FIA GT and the Le Mans 24hrs this season, then of course you are going to be bringing up the rear. The EE seem to be having fun, which is more than can be said for some entrants. And their car does sound the business.

Thanks truckosausus for your support and great pics!

Its easy for people to knock the emotional team but they are out there and are doing a great job considering the difference in budget. To put things in perspective the other teams in our class on the weekend spent more on tyres in the prctice on friday the we had to spend for the whole weekend. Simply to get a car on the grid in british gt is a huge comitment in terms of time and cost and the lads, most of whom are part time and unpaid deserve a bit more support.

This was also my first opportunity in gt and was a bit of a baptism of fire having had no testing and on a new circuit and even though myself and steve struggled with a car that simply was not suited to the very tight nature of the circuit we did make it to the finish getting a couple of podium finishes.

With more support and a bit more budget there is no reason why this car cannot be more competetive!

I wonder how the results would have looked if mullen and niarchos were in the monaro?

I'm not knocking the team, I'm sure they're working as hard as they can and doing the best they can with the budget they're given.

But, they've been racing this car now for three years, and it's still not competitive. In fact, looking back over the times, its now further away from the GT2 pace than in the past.

My point is, if the car is that far away, why spend money on it to race it when development is what is needed?

I understand why people want to race something different and try and do something different with a car that is not 'regular' (See the Trident diesel for reference!) But, they're spending an awful amount of money to get, basically, nowhere. I struggle to understand what the return is, that's all. It must be frustrating for the guys in the team as well as the fans of the car. (The road car and the Oz V8s are sensational) it's just not cut out to be a GT car. (And for anyone about to pipe up and tell me about the Monaro's that did the Bathurst 24 hours, they were as far removed from the car that races in British GT as I am from a house brick!!)

I've always approached racing, especially at that level of competition, as something that you strive to be as competitive as possible, as well as having fun. I can see where the fun part comes in, a little, but doesn't the team (and drivers?) need more than that?

To be fair, he overtook under a yellow flag, so, it was a fair decision. Was Hines driving at the time? He's ex BTCC so it would be second nature...

Hines said he overtook because the Ginetta missed a gear and had been indicating for the whole lap. The Ginetta driver said he missed a gear and moved off line to allow Luke past. In that situation you can hardly stop and let your rival fly off into the distance!

exactly....

Standing on top of the garages, it was very clear what happend, I think it's somewhat harsh to penalise somebody in those circumstances...

??

what's that supposed to mean?

this has NOTHING to do with people on the track, it has to do with the last few metres before the line on the re-start.

A good weekends racing, with the Ferrari having the edge on slicks and the Panos the edge on wets. Lets hope we see the same close racing at Brands Hatch next time out!

It’s a pity the “British” GT championship could be decided by the results of the last race or is it races in France.

Hi Guys,

Interesting thread... We race the Monaro because it is interesting and a great car and one that is in reach for the man in the street. We would love to spend more and develop it to a higher competitive state but it may be the final straw that makes my wife divorce me!

You could say the same thing about the Ginetta or the Morgan when it first started racing? We look at other cars like Porsche, Ferrari, etc and think what if, but we also enjoy talking to race fans who come to our EE garage and enjoy seeing something different.

I would like to invite "racefan uk" to the Brands Hatch round of British GT and let you spend a day with us in our team meetings and on the wall during the race. who knows if you enjoy it we may start a new comp called (manage EE for a weekend)!!!!

Allen Orchard

P.S. Nice pics truckosaurus, if you continue snapping at our races we would love to post them on our site.

Allen,

Wanna borrow my engine? I'm sure you could hide it in there!!!
Turns abt 700bhp/600lbft, and I guarantee you'll blitz those hairdresser's cars, and the Panoz. All you have to do is keep the oil and water in it for a race distance, because darned if I can!

To my mind, SRO should allow you some "tweaks" to make the Monaro competitive in GT2, whether that be freeing up your engine, or losing some weight. Does he really want the Monaro in BGT, or ar you being humoured? I reckon another 100bhp, and you'd be on it.

Then again, if you were competitive, I'm sure they'd petition to get you kicked out like ol' Scuffer's!

Rob.
PS: I dooooo like things like the Monaro, and if you're ever in need of a spare driver......
I'll do it for free!
