I'm due to test drive a Sagaris tomorrow - can't wait, but there are some niggling thoughts in my head:

Reliability. I know recent TVRs are a lot better, but are there any common problems with these cars?

Practicality. What are they like around town?
Do speed bumps present many problems - presumably multi-story car parks are well out of the question?!

Running Costs.
How much to fill up with Optimax? What's a reasonable mileage out of a tank (assuming a moderately heavy right foot)

Many thanks for any answers in advance.

It's about the only car after an M Coupe that's going to make you sh1t yourself for under 100k.

You drive it, you'll buy it. If you can afford to run a coupe then a sag isnt going to be that much worse... don't forget your going to get warranty with it aswell.

All the best and enjoy.... i'm sure you will.

I'm obviously on the right track then!
As a newcomer to TVRs, the Sag certainly seems intimidating.
I have visions of dead-weight clutches and heavy steering - I hope to be proved wrong tomorrow.

Are you a member of the z3mcoupe forum?

no no.. I just had peak at your profile to see what your current car was. I have been a M Coupe fan for years and was very near to buying one a few occasions, just never quiet happened and I fear that day has now passed. You will LOVE..... the sag. Just out of interest, why not a T350?

Ha ha, just realised that I'd put the car in my profile

I've had the MC for just over a year now. It's a brilliant car, and great fun, but maybe it's time for a change.

If you're still interested in one, I'll let you know if/when mines for sale!

I haven't totally ruled out a T350, they're lovely cars, but I prefer the Sag as (like the MC) it has the 'what the f*ck was that' effect on people as you drive past.

The Sagaris is great for everyday use and very practical. It’s great everyday transport, especially if you’re always running late and need to make up time

95% of speed bumps are fine if taken slowly. Most multi story car parks are OK if you’re careful, take your time and think about your approach angle to the ramps.

You will catch the front end on stuff all the time, even bumps in the road, but generally it’s fine and just a light scrape.

The clutch and steering are not hard at all. Reliability, well, it’s a TVR.

I've spent a year and a half and 7200 miles in mine. I kept in a multi story in Paris and have otherwise kept it in London. So I know about speed bumps and the like and the car is fine but you do have to slow right down to avoid contact. Touching down underneath when getting carried away down a bumpy b road is more of an issue but it sounds worse than it is and it doesn't take you too long to realise that the car is too fast to be punted down a bumpy lane.

The thunderous Speed 6 and crappy speakers aside it's actually surprisingly good motorway muncher. The trouble is the engine roar gets smoother at around 4k revs which is just over 100mph. That's it's natural relaxed gait so you have to keep an eye on the speedo.

Fuel economy never ceases to amaze me. Keep the engine out of the mad zone and it'll return high 20s per gallon with ease. It must be because of the lack of weight I guess. It does seem to take a long time and distance to get through it's 50 odd litre tank.

Sadly there's no denying there have been niggles. I used not to mind much as the car has had no serious problems at all, but they're actually starting to annoy me now. The fundamentals are all sound and the car is brilliant. For the experience to be let down by silly little things is such a shame. Stuff like windscreen wipers over wiping and the like are fine if they can be sorted once and for all but can be annoying if they keep coming back. Be sure you're dealer is happy to listen to you, not fob you off and to let you be as much of a perfectionist as you want. A great dealer can make all the difference to TVR ownership.

26mpg out of my T350 from home to the Dordogne averaging 90mph once moving. Probably more at 70 (who'd know!?).

I can't see the Sagaris being that different.

26 from my Tam going from Dorset to Kent. Variable traffic - stop-start bad stuff and nice clear open-her-up stuff. So pretty good overall. Total journey only about 270 miles, but it's consistent over that repeated journey.

I've done 7K miles in 8 months with just a couple of small problems: central locking & reverse light switch - easily fixed.

It uses about 10% more fuel than my ex Tuscan, so expect 180-240 miles out of a full tank depending on how much you thrash it.

Speed bumps are no problem with care, and the multi-storey's I've been in are OK.

This is my 4th TVR so I really appreciate the improvements in build quality over the years.
