Hi Guys,

I've been getting conflicting advice regarding "Earners Liability insurance" It seems that since early 2005 this has not been a legal requirement for small limited companies with 1 employee who is company director and owns at least 50% of the shares.

Does the team think that even if it's not a legal requirement, it's a wise investment anyway? From the quotes I've received it doesn't appear to be over expensive.

Earner's or employer's liability? SOunds like you are describing employer's liability, which would be a bit daft if you employ yourself via your limited company?

Thanks Guys,

I was actually describing employers liability insurance, as described here:-

www.biba.org.uk/consumer/consumernotes/notes/hse40.pdf

Now I am/will be exempt because I fall into one of the exceptions on page 4, but, this exemption has only been in place a couple of years It appears to have been compulsory before then.

As Eric and Percy have already commented, It does seem perverse to insure the company against its owner/director/employee making claims. And even if I did employ anyone else, then exactly what risks am I insuring.

I'm sure there are one or two insurance experts lurking on the forum, can someone assist please?

don't waste your money. there isn't much you could claim. effectively you would have to take yourself to court for injuries resulting from your own negligence/breach of health and safety. If your worried about what would happen if you can't work due to illness or injury just take out an adequate PA & sickness policy
