Hello all

I hadn't even noticed the kit car forum I'd been checking out the Noble one and began to get disappointed because there wasn't a dedicated kit car forum. Then I opened my eyes!

I used to have a VW long wheel base beach buggy. Not sure if it was a GP or Manx (I think) but it's the best looking as far as i'm concerned. I sold it to my cousin a couple of months ago and we've spent a few weeks removing most parts ready for a respray. It's not prep'ed ready for the top coat and laquer but his uncle (the sprayer) is in hospital for a few weeks. I'll post some pics when it's done.

I enjoyed the buggy but because it didn't have weather gear I rarely used it. How can you totally depend on British weater. So now i've got a Midtec Spyder. A bit of a "love it or loathe it" kind of kit car. Even I thought it looked odd...until I took the doors and roof off. With them off it doesn't look so much like a kit car. It's well built, ie space frame chasis and single piece body and even better it's mid engined. I'd say i've covered as many miles in a couple of months as I did in 5 years in the buggy.

Has anyone else had any dealings with a Midtec. Mine's got a Renault 2L engine which I think is unusual.

Welcome to PH.

Rare beast the Midtec, and even rarer with 2 litre Renault engine as I think most used Ford power. As you say, unusual styling, but does come with Lee Noble handling...

Thanks Graham. I'd never heard of the Midtec. In fact I wasn't really looking for a kit car.

Just so happened it was Ebay when I searched for Noble. I had to go home at lunch time to bid and won it quite comfortably. I think the fact that the seller was ending the auction while most people were working worked in my favour.

Not sure how it would fair against 2 litre front engined kit cars but it's fun when the back end snaps out with heavy acceleration and comes back in when I ease off again. Not a big fan of the back of the car but then it's shaped that way for a reason. Nice to meet you anyway Graham.

my dad used to own a midtech which was built by pher luckyp who has gone on to much bigger things. it had a 2lt tuned ford and was rapid. on the trackdays we did it seemed to eat almost everything ie exiges V6 clios 95% of 7s porkers etc. especially in the corners. where it was almost untouchable. except when we saw a radical that did seem to have the edge!!

I'm pretty sure the engine is standard on mine. I did have a stainless steel exhaust made for it when the old scaffold pipe fell off. No doubt I will get too used to the speed and so will have something done to the engine. I think i'll ask members of PH if they have any experience/advice on tuning a Renault 21 2Lt 8 valver. Apart from the obvious of course, ie Head, cams and induction. Lets face it, every bhp on a car weighing 600kg (or so) will make a difference

THe guy I bought it off told me similar stories. That the Midtec kicked arxe on the corners.

Nice to meet you Kingb
