Last Wednesday night I swapped a bankers draft for the keys to my beautiful Cherry Pearl Chimaera 450...

I've had the car since October 2004, it's been my daily driver and I'm really going to miss the sound of the V8 rumble every day, but unfortunately needs must and I'm delighted that she's gone to a good home (I'm sure the new owner will pop up here at some point).

I'd by lying if I said I hadn't cried as it disappeared into the distance, but I do have a better understanding of why my neighbours are glad that it's gone - I could still hear it nearly a mile away as it joined the A12!

Something sensible beckons (collection Friday) which is better suited to doing silly mileage, but at least I have the consolation of there being a Griff in the fleet (assuming the boss will let me drive it! )

:sigh:

How sensible are we talking here?

I've just moved to an Astra Estate.

VERY. Bought a Mondeo ST200 - pick it up Friday.

It's a "sports saloon", NOT a "family hatch"

Thanks guys. Believe me it DOES hurt (those in the know will understand the reasons why I bought it in the first place), but I've got some fantastic memories - 2005 holiday driving through France and Spain, the Mid-Essex convoys, drives out with the boss (matching colour Griff and Chimaera DOES turn heads)...

As I said, I'm convinced it's gone to a good home so it's made it a bit easier to deal with.

Anyway, I'm off to go and cry into a pint of beer for the next hour...

Hmmm... not too bad, much better than my choice. But as you say, needs must... The Astra was cheap and is reliable. Hope you don't stay sensible for too long.

Actually it's a hoot... although I think the sports exhaust helps. As someone pointed out... "half an Aston Martin.... engine"

That sucks. But having been stuck with a sensible shed full time for 8 months after my Chim was tragically destroyed, I can confirm that when you do step back into a cool car, its better than ever!

You've got that to look forward to! (and when you come to it, I'd recommend a Cerb )

I guess you won't laugh at my BMW any more!

Hope to see you (and you in a TVR) again soon.

I'll still laugh... the indicators work in the Ford

You ever going to finish that 3000S..?

What do you mean 'finish' it? TVR didn't so I don't see why I should. I was out in it yesterday at Silverstone but as it rained as much inside as it did out, I wished I'd taken the Beemer (until the trip home when the sun shone).

Top down motoring - you'll miss it, or is the Mundaneo a cabriolet?

Podie - a real Chimaera stalwart.

Ever since I signed up for the wonderful world that is PH, you've been a regular contributor to the TVR S&G/Chimaera pages. Many thanks for all of your insightful posts, hints and tips.

I hope you enjoy the ST200, and that the lack of Chim in no way dampens your obvious enthusism for the marque or your contribution to these here pages (I'm sure it won't)...

Thanks. I'm sure I'll stick my oar in where I can - I'm still a TVR fan at heart, so no worries on that score.

Sad to hear she's gone at last, you must be gutted. Understand why she needed to go, but someone's got a very good car there..
