Has anyone specified a short shifter on their 997 C2S? I didn't but have found out that I can have it retro fitted at the dealers. Is it worth doing?

I didn't get it but have recently driven a C2S with one and I loved it. The sales guys were saying it can be awkward when cold to engage 1st but I could happily put up with that as it really enhances the experience.

I have it on my 997 C4S and love it - absolutely no problems shifting into 1st when cold!

Well I had it retrofitted on Tuesday this week.
Why is this not standard ?????

My last car was a Honda S2000 which had a great gearchange and getting in the C4S it didn't compare. The standard shift is not much different to my old BMW.

However the short shift fixes that. It is FANTASTIC.
A great mod, should have been standard. No problems with gear selection when cold either.

I'm having this on my 997 turbo as I've heard it's awesome - it's funny, although the Tip is being marketed as being faster, in the real world, the manual will be the one to have.

fieldl - If you don't mind me asking...

I'm about to book my 997C2S in to get a PSE fitted. Whilst its there I'm also likely to have the shortshift fitted. Could you let me know what the total cost was? Thanks.

Think I'll have to get mine looked at, I hate it. confused

The shift was the only thing I liked about my old S2000, my C2 is nothing like that though.

Howdy - yes I have this on my 997C2S and whilst it is a little 'notchy' into 1st when the gearbox is cold I happily live with it as the feel when warm is very good (better than a Mk1 GT3 and I wondered at the time if that would be bettered). Enjoy, mr_j

The short shift kit is £237.50 for the official Porsche part. You can get them aftermarket cheaper.
Labour is trickier as I also had rear parking sensors fitted and an oil/filter change done at the same time. I'd guess at a few hours ?

Feels and works much better than the standard shift on 997S IMO. Really suits the car. Difficult from cold?! - don't make me laugh - try an AMV8. Now that's what I call difficult!! Go for it.

Tried a few on GT3's. On the circuit they are generally not as good as the standard shifter.

This sports shifter thread has cuaght my imagination. I prev did not intend to touch my 997S with and after-market things, for fear of residual value, warranty etc. How would it affect both please?

You can buy a Porsche one - there are no warranty or residual issues. In any event for the latter it's entirely switchable - keep the original and revert back if you want to.

I choose the short shift option
on my c2S.
it is fantastic, it should be standard.
also consider the -20mm suspension at no
extra cost - this IMO is another must have.

Sports exhaust is well worth the money

Baron.

I'm sure I have read a thread on here that the aftermarket version is not only cheaper but better quality (nylon V metal?). Not sure but just a recollection!!

True - I have the Schnell one and comparing it with the original one that came out, it uses metal where the original used plastic in certain places.

I have the Porsche one fitted on my 6spd Boxster. Compared to the standard 5spd it is leagues ahead.
