Recommendations on 4.5 , 5 or 6 inch widths for road and occasional track use? All with 165 tyres.

5 inch will be your best bet.

5 or 5.5, especially if you wish to keep within tyre manufacturer recommendations.

If you are going to use the car for track use go for 6". The 165 A032R or the A008 fit well.

I would go fo 5" as the best compromise. I have some 5" x 10 BJW wheels which I use for tarmac with 165/70 x 10 Yoko's or Falkens and they are very good. Their offset is such that I just get away without wheel arch extensions (less to knock off when I run a bit wide!). However, I've had them a long time and don't know where to get a couple more. Anyone any ideas?

Thanks for all the feedback!

Not sure exactly which wheels you have, but these guys seem to be selling some 70's wheels at reasonable pricing. I really like the look of the cars without arches, I was assuming that genuine minilites 4.5 were the only ones I could use.

What about the 1275GT Rostyles?

It's not just the width but also the offset that you need to look at.

Subtle, not expensive and can take a 165mm tyre without arches.

I've run allsorts on my stupid 1380 from 3.5" with crossplies to JA Pearce 6.5" mags and 7" split rims. I've been running compomotive 5" (lot of inset) and they offer the best balance between tyre stiffness and STEERING user friendlyness. Don't knock this, the most stupid wheels I have had on a mini were the JAP's. They needed group 5 arches on drum braked cars. Running S gear, the things were horrible. You had to fight the steering and it would kick like hell. It went around corners like it was on rails yet was a dog to drive. Tracks are nice and smooth as well as the drivers prepared to put up with sore wrists! Due to quite a lot of -ve camber my steering isn't ideal yet I can drive VERY VERY FAST up a windy hill with the full confidence that if I clip a bump, the wheel won't get ripped out of my hands.

Big offsets are also more fun for torque steer hehe Mine used to weave stupidly under hard accelleration, despite being set up with super duper scientific precision. thumbup

I like the plain faced 4.5 minilite, I'd like some 5" ones though.

Which compomotive's are they older as the current website lists the smallest wheel as a 5.5x13 ??

Anyone know where those rostyles might be available ?

You already posted a link to M&Ms.

I am pretty sure that they had a couple of sets last time I looked.

I will have a look for you tomorrow if you like. I am in Warrington anyway. They have hundreds of second hand wheels. I can ask what other 10" wheels they have that will go over S Discs without arches being needed.

Incidentally, I have four 10x5 Fersat steel wheels. They were the standard fitment on the Innocenti Cooper 1300. They look a bit like Rostyles and will just about go on a Mini without arches.

Here they are fitted with 145mm tyres on my 1275GT:

You might just get away with 165mm tyres and no arches, but they would stick out a bit.

Mine are a bit scruffy and lack centre caps. They need shot blasting, a couple of dings knocking out of the rims and then painting. They might be for sale if someone waved £60 under my
nose....

Sent you an email regarding your wheels.

Thank for for the generous offer, but I am not too far from Warrington myself and will be visiting M&M next week, please dont go out of your way.

Thanks!
