More Engine Mod Advice.............

Looking to upgrade my engine; lighten/balance bottom end, MC2 Cam kit, programmable ecu etc, BUT what about the cylinder heads??? Are the standard ones ok or is it worth uprating to modified/staged heads???

Pretty sure the 500 heads are big valve to start with.
Sure somebody will be along to say whether they are ported and flowed ...........


But then theres the inlet manifold to be flowed/ported. Bigger trumpets.....

The 500 heads are already big valve,and ported.Infact theyre over ported really,by all acounts.You can get better heads,but to be honest,the way i thought was that there are other things to do first,as Antony says.
Theres a nice set of P38 coil packs in the classifieds by the way

Theyre the fourx 2 packs,theyre the ones i already use,and fit perfectly behind the plenum,where they were designed to-PM for more info,as shouldnt advertise on the forum

To be honest,theres not much to see.The leads just 'appear' from behind the plenum-very neat,definately the right coils to use imho.On mine i have an a/c pipe in the way of being able to see it unfortunately.Theyre easy to install,i just use the two legs through which the bolts which hold the fuel rail down,go through.

I know what you mean about doing other mods first, just ive got to take out and strip my engine anyway so was thinkig if its worth getting better heads then ill get them whilst rebuilding the bottom end. Iam sorely temted by the coils Mike, but need to spend my money on cam etc first!!! Do you do an instalment plan for good/existing customers

A good set of heads will set you back around £1500ish,and as theyre more than do-able in the car,it's something that could wait imho.If i was starting out again,i'd do it in order of ecu,cam,inlet manifold and trumpets,plenum,manifolds and 'y' piece etc.I would however,seriously consider having the block crossbolted and top hat linered,if you've got the engine out already.
I wish i could do a payment plan on the coils,but i don't think Mrs Mongoose would approve!I'm trying to sell them quickly for something for her,unfortunately

No Worries Mike!! I spoke to V8D and Real Steal today both said stage three heads are approx £900 a pair, bearing in mind i could sell the originals to offset the cost?? Could be worth it??

Blimey,thats a lot cheaper than i thought,especially as you say,you can offset that by selling your present heads.Are you planning to do as much as poss in one go then?What have you decided on so far?
