All my lights have stopped working, checked the fuses blah blah blah. But during the search I came across this little red box with about 9 or 10 spades on it that connects into a block. When you switch the lights on it clicks but I get the idea that A)its bust and B) its responsible for my current headache.

What is it?? A Relay of some kind??

if its inside the car its the dim dip relay that makes the lights dip down for some reason - its fitted from about 1989 on. commen with metros and meastros and what not. its about 20 quid new.

its also pink not red, and is known as 'the big pink one' in technical terms - its normal fault is to stop at least one light function when it pops!

That sounds about right. The headlights work and the dim dip works but the feed has cut to the rear lights and dashboard lights and indicators. I just thought it could be that?

When I built my 1991 Cooper rally car I did away with the dim dip as it was a source of unreliability, or so I thought and this confirms it.

The dip-dip relay is a legal requirement from late 80's, it means that when driving with your side lights on, there is a secondary low voltage feed to the headlights.

Not quite... they thought it was going to become law and so fitted them ... but it never happened.

as silly as it sounds have a look at the wires that run at the back of the air filter we had a bad con there and that stoped the back lights worked but also take a look and a good clean of the 2nd fuse and spades
