Ok, need advice. Looking for a budget Laptop, cdrw essential, must be internetable, mostly for basic sufrfing and writing essays, 400 quid budget. Have seen a couple at currys (packard bell notably) which look close, but would value your opinions

Any new laptop will do those tasks so I'd just buy the cheapest and then upgrade in a few years - laptops generally aren't as robust or cheap to repair as desktops.

So with that in mind this looks fine for the job :

www.pcworld.co.uk/martprd/product/seo/923380 with DVD-RW @ £349

Edit : IMHO Packard Bell are best avoided...

Staples sometimes do deals at that price point. If you are willing to wait a week for delivery Dell lappys start at £300ish

Cheers mate! Been looking for a cheap laptop for the GF. Think this may be the ticket plus some more RAM.

Try Acer,

IIRC we used www.shoplaptop.co.uk to source my mother in laws and it is a great little machine.
