Chim Transmission Tunnel Earth Points

Can anybody tell me of an easy way to get to the fg transmission tunnel earthing points on an early 5 litre Chim ! I really don't want to have to butcher the carpets. I have a partially illuminated charge light (noticable only when dark) and a nervous "tick" on the tach and oil pressure guage. Virtually the entire ignition system has been replaced with ACT's finest and the battery checks out ok charge-wise. Any sugestions would be most greatfully considered as this prblem is starting to make me froth at the mouth.

I've no experience of accessing those earth points, but it looks impossible without removing the carpet and that in itself looks a pig of a job if they're to go back intact!

Perhaps it would be easier to take off the dash top and supply a new dedicated earth point to there from the footwell/battery box area?
