Spraying fuel in the engine bay !!!!!
Discussion
Please excuse my rant but I’m rather worried !! Just changed the dizzy cap and rotor arm so I thought I would take the car for a quick spin …. Thank god It was a quick 2 minute spin !!!! Parked her up in the drive and could smell fuel, popped the bonnet and rev’d the engine standing from the drivers side of the car.
It was then that I noticed the fuel spraying out of (and this is where my mechanical knowledge sucks) a brass pipe that comes out from behind the plenum chamber and connects to a small black hose. The black hose pipe is really loose and the jubilee click that holds it in place is rusty looking and very loose.
My only problem is every time I tray and tighten or loosen the clip the fuel sparys out into the (then hot!) engine bay.
What do I do next ? Please help as I’m very worried !
I can post a picture of the location if someone can tell me how to ?

ok, switch everything off, let the engine cool until the exhaust is hand cool.
Remove the old jubilee clip, replace with a petrol pipe clips that look like this
While everything is apart, inspect the petrol pipe for any signs of perished rubber, cracking, chaffing etc etc.
Regards
Iain

Thanks mongoose !
Anyone know where I can buy these clips from ?
If fuel does piss out then dont start the engine for about five minutes afterwards until it has evaporated, my workshop lad did this about six months ago on an old escort and has only just got his eyebrows and bumfluff back, and no car from the fire!.
I only use crimped fittings on fuel lines its very secure but the tooling is quite expensive.

That's the supply side, it's under high pressure and will hold pressure for a long time after you stop the engine. To be on the safe side, disconnect the fuel pump or pull the fuel pump relay out and crank the engine over for a couple of seconds to release the pressure.
I'm a little surprised to find a plain hose fitting used on the supply side, I'd expect to see a JIC connector on this side with a plain fitting on the return. But there have been lots of variations on the fuel rail. Anyway, for a high pressure fuel line you want to ensure you have a proper clamp and not just a jubilee clip. Also check the condition of the hose and especially the end. I doubt that jubilee is original, and it may have been replaced in an attempt to cure similar problems in the past. Problems like this can be caused by a damaged hose, in which case replacing the clamp won't cure it.
