Bit convoluted... When I moved from Bath to Bristol I forgot/didn't bother to send my V5s to the DVLA to give them my new address.

Turns out while off the road the Marcos' tax ran out for a 2 month period. As soon as I got the car back (and realised) I taxed the car. No doubt I will have been charged the fixed £80 fine, but this will have been sent to my old address - I have now informed the DVLA of my new address, are they likely to re-send the fine to my new address or am I going to have to chase them for it to avoid a CCJ or somesuch? It will have been a few months ago...

Also what offence have I committed by not informing them immediately of the change of details and what cash prize do they receive for this crime?

cheers

You may be lucky and the DVLA computer cull has not pulled your vehicle out as unlicensed and unsorned during the period it was so for the £80 penalty. I would have thought that had they done so, papers sent out and nothing returned, then a marker placed on your file and activated when new address advised.

Only DVLA will know what the score is.

The offence you mention:

That you, being the owner of a mechanically propelled vehicle, did fail, on a change of address, to forthwith enter particulars of your new address in the space provided in the Registration Certificate issued in respect of the said vehicle and send the Registration Certificate to the Sec of State.

Contrary to Regulation 18 Road Vehicles (Registratuion and Licensing) Regs 2002 and Section 59, Vehicle Excise and Registration Act 1994

Keeerching...£1000 max, no points or disqualification under VERA.

Never heard of DVLA taking action themselves for this offence,,,,

Thanks DVD, though a grand sounds a bit scary!!

Tax ran out end of March and I re-taxed for June to go to LM so hopefully it hadn't come up...
