Adding a website to search engines?

Can anyone share any pearls of wisdom?

Have been setting up a website for a family member and we need to get it on some search engines.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I've never submitted a site of mine to search engines and it still gets spidered.

However for google - www.google.co.uk/addurl/?continue=/addurl

Yahoo - http://login.yahoo.com/config/login?.

Sometimes can take a while after submission to a search engine before you will get spidered. An alternatic way is to get some back links off popular sites (stick a link in your PH profile? ) because spiders like to follow links If you can get reciprocal link exchanges from other similar sites, this might help you out as well.
