Andy - after our last conversation about the hubs, think you are right on going for porsche. Haven't really looked at getting the audi G'box to porsche hubs yet but that's something for another day.

Anyway, could I ask which specific hubs etc you went for, front & back, and do you have the bearing assembly details & dims by chance?

Cheers

I got hubs from a 996... I think the Boxter S has the same ones but not 100%. Porsche bearings are larger than ford and I can measure them at the weekend if you want.

The uprights I used are prosport items and I can get hold of these unmachined but you will need to then get them machined. For info the Prosport front uprights are similar to Ultima ones but beefed up, the rears are unique but both can be machined for the larger Porsche bearings.

If you could measure them would be greatly appreciated. If I could be a real pain - if you could give me dims of the actual hubs as well I can start working out inclinations etc. (think I'm right in thinking 996 wheels are 55mm offset?)

I'm sort of working on the suspension myself again at the moment - gave up trying to get hold of Steve unfortunately, (seems a very busy man!) shame as would have been helpful on the engine and box front as well, but have some big fat books here and some software on the way shortly, as I'm going with the Citroen hydro system incorporated into double wishbone I decided it was going to mean lots of unusal stuff anyway! hopefully combo of the books, the software and a bit of fiddling will get me there eventually.

I'm thinking about getting carriers cast & machined to my own design, might be expensive but I cant find CAD files (or even the company!) behind prosport units and I need these to do the CAD work on the chassis etc, and as the rears will be unique, as yours, I'm trying to figure out if I can get one casting to be machined differently for both front and rear solutions, then just alter the Wishbone geometry to get the roll centre's roughly where I reckon - probably turn out to be a waste of time or just a pigs ear but you have to try these things once in a while dont you... nuts

If you want your own design cast then find a local investment casting company and go buy some wax from them. You can then carve your design in the wax. Take these back to the company who will dip them in a ceramic slurry which is then fired to melt out the wax. Aluminium is then poured into the resultant mould. You only get one shot at this as the original wax shape and the ceramic are lost in the process.

If you think a single design will do front and back both sides then make your shape and take a rubber mould off of it. This mould can then be used to produce many wax pieces.
Don't forget to discuss the ali grade you want them to use.

The more work you do on this yourself the less the castings will cost.

thanks steve, I'll be giving some places a call next week on the casting side. I'll CNC cut the wax so there should be very little work for them to do - could of course produce several identical this way to keep costs down.

Sorry won't be able to get dimensions this weekend, will try to get then as best I can next weekend as they are on the car and it means stripping it to measure.
