Corvette accessories group buy/shipping
Discussion
As you can tell, I love my new Z06. However I have never been a believer in leaving well enough alone and want to bring in some parts to improve it in various ways.
I am currently researching which parts are going to best tune up the LS7, which let's face it is in a pretty relaxed state of tune at only 505bhp.
Favourites are Lingenfelter, but I'm also looking at the popular LG/Halltech alternative and happy to make other enquiries if people want.
I personally want over 600bhp (flywheel) in order to make it worthwhile and that is achievable with cam, headers, filter/CAI and a remap/"tune".
More straightforwardly, I also want to buy a set of Z06 floor mats and a cargo mat, best of which appear to be the Lloyds brand as featured here www.zip-products.com/Zip/productr.asp?pf%5Fid=I%2D2120&gift=False&0=dept%2Easp%2Cdept%5Fid%3D2019%26menu%5Fid%3D%26Tree%3D%2CC6%20Interior%20Accessories&1=dept%2Easp%2Cdept%5Fid%3D2027%26menu%5Fid%3D%26Tree%3D0%2CC6%20Floor%20%26%20Cargo%20Mats&HSLB=False&mscssid=03B2BAA5A21B0488F88575B3C656DE8B
and possibly a cargo partition and oddments tray as featured here https://ssl.perfora.net/s131872457.oneandoneshop.com/sess/utn;jsessionid=1544e4eb7cab854/shopdata/index.shopscript
There may well be other parts like aluminium gas and dead pedals (kickplates?) etc.
Now some of these parts are bulky and some heavy, so I was wondering if anyone wants to do some sort of shipping deal whereby they can be sent over in a container and the cost split between us or at least a deal done with a couple of suppliers where they group multiple orders together and save us on shipping.
Is this worthwhile organising or are the savings not going to make up for the hassle?
Please let me know if you would be interested in joining in.
You can email me at david@auto-journals.com
Is there already a trader on here who has regular containers coming over that we can add to?

Yeah, but they won't be selling the parts I want!
I've contacted Steve and I reckon we'll start using him.
Looks very simple; ship parts to his business address at JFK (lots of cos ship within US for free) then he bundles them together and flies them out to Heathrow, taking care of Customs, VAT etc.
He also has a discount account with Ecklers and is establishing more, so we could save even more.

Damn damn damn.

I haven't even got my C5 yet and I'm already seeing lots of lovely mats and stuff that I can buy for it.
There goes the overdraft.

Steve is also the K&N Filters supplier for American cars such as the Corvette.
On the subject of freeing the horses within the LS7 if it's similar to the LS6 then replacing the restrictive factor air filter with a freer flowing one or better still a Ram Air system will improve the horsepower by about 30-40bhp just by doing this. Replacing the cats with racing type cats is also an option but with this you need to be careful that the oxygen sensors can still be fitted otherwise the ECU will throw a load of codes and shutdown your engine!!
Here's the solution.
1.Two suitcases, as empty as you can get them. (Take your wife and that's four suitcases).
2.Hop on a plane across the Pond (if you dare given the current security scares)
3.Stop off at a show where you'll see 82 acres of Corvettes and about 1,000 traders.
4.Buy what you need.
5.Chuck away any of your clothes that you stupidly bought with you.
6.Load up the suitcase and come home.
That's exactly what I will be doing next week at Corvettes at Carlisle.
I've already got some filters and a Halltech air intake waiting for me to pick up.
Can't wait.

Dear Mr Customs.
There will be a very nice man with heavy suitcases and long arms coming through one of your barriers in the very near future.
You will be able to spot him due to the gaudy Corvette jacket he wears and the bits of car that will be hanging out of his suitcase. He will probably be wearing dark sunglasses.
I suggest that it might be in your interest to stop him and have a look in the suitcase. It may contain vinyl american flags or small decals of misspelt German race circuits.
I have not signed this letter as I do not wish to get involved in the court case. Let us just say that I am a concerned citizen. Concerned both for the well being of the UK freight industry but also the credibility of race fans everywhere
See - I am still around!

You forgot to added the "special" Corvette parts are usually retained anally and therefore the Customs officiers should thoroughly investigate this too......

mmm think I got my ZZ4 engine for the C3 from them. Oh sorry, that was Corvette Kingdom.
So, when we get the stuff for the Z06 mods (air intake, cam, headers, tune etc), anyone got any suggestions who we should use to get the work done?
I use a company in Tewkesbury to work on my C5 Z06 but they are not specialist in Corvettes but then again there is no one in the UK I would trust to work on my car apart from possibly Bauer Millett / Stratstones and they would probably not be willing to do "mods" as this open's them up to all sorts of warranty / reliability issues.
The biggest problem is not fitting bits i.e. air intake, exhaust is a DIY job, it is making sure the car is happy with the changes and doesn't start throwing codes or worse starts to run badly!
The guys in Tewkesbury tuned my car on the dyno but then again my car is running an aftermarket ECU so it is tuneable not sure how easy it would be to get into the C6 ECU and modify stuff looking at the forums in the US it appears the ECU is locked up tighter than a duck's @rsehole......
