Is anyone else having problems with their AOL Broadband? I've had it for a year with no problems at all but in the last few weeks it keeps losing connection and there's a lot of interference on the phone for a minute or so into a call. I've swapped all the filters around but it makes no difference. A mate at work has had the same problem for 2-3months. Surely all the filters can't stop working at the same time?

Any ideas?

Used to have a bit of trouble with it. Last year i ditched their modem and set up my own wireless system, complete with a third party router. Can't remember being cut off at all since then.

I have my phone with BT and my broadband with BT. If there is anything wrong with it, they know, and I know, it's their fault. So I never have any problems. I hear people at work complaining about just about everyone who supplies broadband " this is wrong or this dos'nt work". Well, they wanted cheap broadband, and thats what they got. John

unless a filter goes faulty then its your fault or wiring after the nte goes faulty then its your fault .

These are covered with other people's broadband then, are they?

I had a few issues in late July with disconnection etc, and then a few days later this arrived in my inbox

At AOL we aim for the highest standards of service for our customers. On Sunday 23rd July 2006 some AOL members experienced problems with the AOL service.

We would like to assure you that this problem has now been resolved and will not have any further impact on your enjoyment of AOL.

If you were logged on during this time, I apologise if our normally high service standards were not met.

We would like to apologise for any inconvenience.

They are continually upgrading the hardware and obviously occasionally users suffer a lack of service. Nice of them to acknowledge it too.

The current weather (thunder storms and flash floods) will also not help.......

You might want to have a look at AOLs own message boards, where you will find some very helpful people who will be able to help with almost all Broadband problems. To get to them go to AOL Keyword: Message Boards then select the technology option, and the first in the list is AOL Broadband, in there you'll find 6 boards including one for technical hints and tips. Although AOL Boards are open to all (as long as you use AIM) this link might work http://messageboards.aol.co.uk/aol/en

However I do know a number of people are suffering from poor connections at the moment which is rumoured to be due to BT working on the lines, and is also due to a swap to a different product called MAXDSL. This effectively ensures you have the maximum speed your line can take but on a number of occasions has been proven to not work! Which speed package are you on? Platinum is most likely to suffer as they attempt to maximise speed.

As has been said it does appear that Modem Routers seem to be able to handle a poor supply better than the simple routers. You might want to try calling AOL to see if you can get a free wireless router.

no everyone is the same just clarifying the point that if it goes wrong then it's not as straight as your post would
suggest

the problem with disconnection on dslmax should settle down after a week or so when the system decides your optimum reliable speed.

Thanks for the advice, i'll take a look. It has got worse over the weekend with it being virtually impossible to get a connection unless you use the phone at the same time??

I'm on the silver option.

I managed to get onto AOL who are sending me a modem that plugs into the ethernet connection as opposed to the USB as well as some updated software, they'll also reduce my rental to £9.99 a month as i threatened to cancel. Hopefully the new modem will sort it.
