Hi all Maser lovers,

I had my Blue Maserati 3200 GT Auto for a few monts now and its been a dream to own and drive (if you discount the frequent trips to the Shell Garage). However, I woke this morning to find a lovely 10 inch crack has appeared out of nowhere on the windscreen. It seems to eminate from the dash area (near the left wiper) and doesnt appear to have been casued by a stone chip.

Has anyone else suffered anything like this? Is is safe to continue to drive and use the car while I wait for autoglass to source a new window and fit it under my insurance?

On the subject of autoglass, I've been told that they cant get a definite date from Maserati regarding shipment of a replacement window.

Regards,

BM

Perfectly safe to continue driving the car. The crack may well get bigger if it's not yet reached the edge at one end, but there's zero chance of the screen coming in on you at any speed.

Unusual to have started without a stonechoip first but I've seen this on other cars - it's quite common after a new screen has been fitted.

Go in and show autoglass the car and speak to someone with a brain. They will need to also order a special surround for the screen from maserati.

If you want to know how long it will take - phone up maserati in egham yourself and ask to buy a windscreen and surround for self fitting and check out the lead time.

My 4200 did this about a year ago - again for no obvious reason. Autoglass needed 3 weeks to get the glass in but did an excellent job!

They said that it probably cracked because it was slightly incorrectly fitted in the factory putting a particular area under excess stress over time this stress weekens a particular point of the screen and something very trivial can cause it to crack.

Mine did the same just a month after buying it (second hand from a local specialist) - cost me £50 on my excess, my insurance company a cool grand however they said they wouldn't fix another should there be no stone chip next time - easily fixed I guess with a sharp nail and delecate hammer!

No repeat 2 years later and a different insurance company anyway.

Got it done at an RAC centre, took just a few days to get it in.

Hi

Same problem. RAC Autoglass ordered glass on 2 August but I am pleased to advise it will be fitted on 24 August; quick turn around, not!

Had the same happen on my 348. Halifax RAC were excellent, though it took about 2 weeks to get the glass and trim from Ferrari - the first one they sent was kinked and the RAC guy rejected it.
