Windows XP - Direct Cable Connection

Trying to connect 2 PCs via DCC, both running XP Pro.

It all appears to be working & the connection is established and passing data back & fore, but can I see files on the host pc from the client? Can I fcuk.

Any ideas from types? ta

XP has a delightful trick which we found out at a LAN party. Make sure you have at least one shared directory on both machines. XP will not "see" any computer that hasn't got a shared directory even tough you can ping it and even transfer information like hosting games.

You need to 'share' the folder you want to copy from/to. NT/W2K/XP Pro normally share the C drive as a hidden share (try connecting to (computer name)C$ (the dollar sign makes it hidden).

Weird thing is, the connection is there, I have shared folders on both machines, i can't ping the host machine or see it in network neightbourhood.

But (and this is the really weird bit) I can use Netmeeting to connect the 2 machines via IP address!

Very weird, a long shot but worth a try, have you turned off the firewalls on both machines? I know we had some problems with XP and firewalls playing silly b*gg*rs till we turned them off.
