Hi guys,

Put my 16" wheels on my '86 944 onto my dad's '89 944. Looking from behind, the offside 'sticks out' from the wheelarch more than the nearside. And I noticed the same thing with a colleague's 924. Is this normal?

It's Fuchs wheels in both instances: must admit, I've never noticed it on mine.

Not going mad and seeing things, am I? The neighbours have been most amused, watching me jump and crouch down from one side of the car to the other, repeatedly...

Cheers,
Rich.

your wheels should have a part no in the casting which will identify width and offset and your problem may be due to spacers/offsets
have a look at clarks-garage.com and you should find links to all the info you need
by the way the fuchs wheels look superb

Great - cheers! And I am a bit obsessive about the Fuchs; adore them.

Need a new set of boots too. Anyone have any best buys for a 2.5 Lux? Heading towards Dunlop SPs at the mo. Or some £18 Koreans.

I think you will find that this is normal for a 944, according to the guys on the PCGB forum its because the rear wings have different amounts of clearance side to side. Not something you will find on a modern cad designed car!

The fuchs will be the wrong offset for an 89 car (will stick out too far) the offsets changed in 87 late wheels on an early car will need BIG spacers, early wheels on a lat car will sit a long way out. There is usually a difference between the left and right hand side rear wheels relative to the arches.

Best cheaper tyre I've found is the Goodyear F1 GSD3, they were fine on the front of my 944 but died when the geometry was out, currently running £50 made in indonesia jobbies which actually aren't bad.

That's all cleared up - thanks. Better search for some Goodyears then.
