Has anyone ever seen one of these things on the road? I never even heard of one until tonight.

Simply gorgeous styling. wonder what they drive like. A true ferrari alternative, and it'd be so cool driving it round town and no one would know what the hell it was. It also exudes quality just like a rarri, and just like an NSX, Noble etc can't and look like cheap kit cars.

According to the literature and vids on the site, it is supposed to be a serious contender 240+ MPH and has apparently been around in finished form and given to customers for 2 - 3 years. IIRC

There were there last year too:

Looks awesome. Fantastic quality. Not too sure about the styling myself, and if i was paying that much money i would real want something that people didn't say "pardon" to after i tell them what i drive (sounds snobbish i know, sorry).

not sure myself- i like the looks and yes if you had loads of money it would be great to own due to its extreme exclusivity but what isn't exclusive about a enzo or carrera gt??? how can this company hope to make money on such a product? i can't imagine the market is that big. having said that the Pagani Zonda seems to be doing well-

There is a letter from Christian von Koenigsegg in this months evo. I think (scratches head and tries to remember) that he says that the first customer cars have (or are about to be) delivered. I don't have the mag to hand at the moment but hopefully someone will back me up.

daft name tho...

Yep, he was replying to Gordon Murray's (McLaren F1)comments in the previous edition of Evo that basically stated that the K'egg, Bugatti and other wannabee top supercar contenders had missed the point of what a supercar was all about and that they were talking up their cars before production.

I reckon Murray has a valid point Ferrari, Lambo, McLaren, Porsche, Aston, etc have pedigrees of some distinction. The juices don't flow the same tho' for the K'egg or for that matter the Zonda - maybe in years to come when they've paid their dues? - if they are still around!

There was a Koenigsegg on display at last year's Goodwood Festival of Speed. It looked really good, despite the fact that the show car was a really appalling, weak blue colour.

There have been a few articles on this car in the press during the last 18 months, including a couple of articles in EVO.

I read the interview with Gordon Murray with some interest. He had a number of valid points, but understanderbly IMO made a few statements which appeared a little protective of the Mac-F1.

However despite the apparent spat that has now developed between Murray & Christian von Koenigsegg in the pages of EVO, it's clear that the onus is on the Swede to PROVE that the claims are making for his car are true.

The Mac has an independantly verified set of performance statistics including a top speed of 241mph, which was published in Autocar. If the Koenigsegg can beat that then all he has proved is that he can make a car with another "unusable" top speed, in the manner that Edonis and Bugatti have also been doing.

Whether any of these cars will actually be a "better" car than the F1 seems to be will be something that only those journalist who have driven both will be able to tell us. Personally my money is on the bloke who's designed more F1 championship winning cars than anyone else alive...

I've seen the Dubai car - it's a black one.

Didn't seem to have the same presence as I imagine the Enzo or a Carrera GT would have. In fact it looked a bit plasticky. If it were parked next to a 360, my guess is most people would be wowed by the (much much cheaper) Ferrari.

In contrast a Zonda seems (almost!) worth the money when you see it in the flesh, even if you think it's ugly.

Then again I didn't see the Koenigsegg in daylight, so maybe the black colour hid the lines.

Just heard a rumour on another discussion group that the factory which makes these cars has been burnt to the ground. Although 15 cars were saved from the blaze.

I like the look of it but agree that they have to be able to back up all the hype with results.

This is where the Bugatti falls down (as raised in the article in Evo). While they claim it has 1000 bhp and will hit 250 mph if you want to go over 190 you have to call the factory to get an engineer to disable the limiters and fit special speed wheels. Fine if you have the use of the Nardo Bowl for a day but not much use if you're on a autobahn with a Zonda up your chuff!
