I've spent all bl00dy day trying to get a friends ADSL connection working with a Belkin 54G wireless ADSL modem/router.

The ADSL connection works fine when the Tiscali supplied Sagem modem is connected to a laptop and dials up. So we know we have the correct username/password and the line filter works OK.

The Belkin ADSL modem and wireless router works as far as a wireless connection to the modem configuration screen can be made.

The modem config pages state that there is a connected ADSL line with 2.2MBs download and 300Kbs upload (which sounds about right) - but it also states that there is no internet connection. And indeed nothing can connect to the internet.

I've tried all the PPPoA settings as per Tiscali web site but to no avail.

The modem/router log file stats that it finds and ADSL connection but then gives a PPP error LCP timeout.

Anyone managed to get Belkin kit and Tiscali to work together.

(I did try phoning both Tiscali and Belkin but gave up after ages on hold).

TIA

Seen this a few times now with Tiscali and BT. Its always Belkin routers that cause the problem. Come across so many we now advise clients to go Netgear/Linksys and avoid Belkin.

Last one was Thursday - exactly same symptoms as you with the Belkin. Connected fine with the BT Voyager USB bag o sh1te but wouldn't play ball at all with the Belkin. Client bought a Netgear and bam - connected first time without a problem.

Dunno whether its Belkins firmware or what but even all the updates don't seem to make the slightest bit of difference.

yes I have seen issues with some of the newer Belkin kit. Ironically, the old 54G router that I bought worked great with anything I threw at it. Not the most powerful of firmwares but a solid performer and still going strong at Gaffer's place...

I have a Tiscali/Belkin setup, and have sorted one out for someone else too. Both work fine. I did have to fiddle a bit to get mine going, but it has beet totally stable since then.
