This is just me but i would personally go for a T350C as i don't like the lines on the roof of the targa top. I have the T350C Red Rose which was bought and owned by TVR from new for 3 years so has had all the engine upgrades (05 Spec) applied to it as they came out. After reading alot of the posts on here alot of problems seem to occur during the first 20k after that the problems seem to be ironed out. I would go for one that is maybe a little older that has already had the top end rebuild that so many early sp6's needed within their first 20k in some cases rebuilt after 15k also if you get one in the 20's enquire about if and when the clutch was done.

Mine has done 45k and has had all the clutch mechanism including master slave cylinder, on its 3rd clutch and fully rebuilt top end to 05 spec.

Also having had the full red rose 4k pack from new my engine was fully blue printed which means less stress when reving. Alot of the faults came about from poor dimensional accuracy of some of the original parts so if you go for the red rose conversion it will benefit you in the long run not to mention the extra power

45,000? Less than 1,000 behind me, but there will be another 1,000 on it by time I get back from Croft next weekend.
All on the original, non-rebuilt engine too.

Touch wood.

Sorry to hear there's a parts hiccup. Previous owner maybe didn't bother sorting the faults if he was due to sell soon, but should last well when sorted.

Best advice I think anyone can give is get a warranty, even if you buy private go and get a TVR after sales warranty.

Don't trick yourself into thinking that the car is only a year or two old so surely nothing major is going to happen...spend the £1500, it will be worth it in the long run

I unfotunatley learnt the hard way

ok, warranty seems to be a sensible idea, can you just take out a warranty on TVR just like that, or do they need to be extended from new? My BM has warranty still and unless I continue it with no break it cannot be re instated later on, is this similar to TVR?

given its a 3.6 NA engine, i would have though it is reasonable reliable?? what are the wallet busting problems that anyones faced? (sorry if this is a painful quesion!!!!)

cheers

Hello

Funnily enough, I've just just changed an M3 SMG for a T350C

It is fantastic - much more fun than the M3, although obviously a little trickier to drive hard (I'm a little nervous still about pushing it too far)

After much thought, I bought mine from a TVR main dealer and have a two year warranty
You can get the warranty added to any TVR but they have to go through a 100 point check which costs about £400 to perform apparently.
Any issues then need to be sorted before they'll issue the warranty (another £1500 or so, for 1 year)

Mine has a wear and tear warranty from the TVR dealer that includes clutches!!!

If you buy an 05 plate or newer you should get the remainder of the 3yr (or 36000 miles) manufactures warranty...if you buy an older than 05 you will need to buy a TVR warranty. As was said above TVR will issue a warranty after an inspection regardless of whether it had a warranty the previous year.

I think you are looking at least 1700inc wear & tear but not inlcuding any work that the inspection throws up,..check with a dealer about which year the 3yr warranty started I am fairly sure it was 05 & >

In terms of problems I don't think to tell you what I have spent would be a fair perspective as it seems most haven't had half the problems I have had and I may have just been unlucky...

Get a warranty and you won't have to worry - trust me it will give you peace of mind in the long run

FYI - read the paperwork closely - it does not cover the friction plates if worn naturally. All other clutchy bits seem to be covered though.
