How long would a specialist take to setup a cerb?

I'm picking up my new cerb on friday morning and I've been told that its down on power and needs to be setup by a dealer/specialist. As there is no indys in my area I was hoping that I could pop it into one on the way home and get it fettled. I'm not quite sure what setting up a cerb entails? If it only takes an hour or two then I'll see if i can find a specialist on the way from Worcestershire to Sunderland, any recommendations?
TVR Power in Coventry told me it would take about an hour, but as a new customer they would run it on the rollers first to check the power, then tune it and run it again so that you could see what(if any) the difference was.
Would obviously take longerif you had it on the rollers aswell

Makes you wonder how they've been tuning them for the last 10 years prior to getting the dyno
If the tune-up is 'just' setting the throttle pots etc., then it's a while you wait job. If the throttle pots need replacing then not (unless the garage has some in stock). If the cam timing is out then definitely not a WYW job. "Down on power" is a symptom of a multitude of possible problems. Fairly recently I had a 'down on power' symptom with my 4.5 that felt like over-fuelling (seemed like just a laptop adjustment). It turned out an HT lead and a coil pack were playing up.

Is that something that happens checking often? The Engine was re-built by TVR engineering 7k ago?
I'll give TVR power a ring this afternoon see if they can fit me in. If not can anyone suggest another specialist?

Cerbera did it will be off the road for weeks.He had many problems with set up's etc and this
all came down to head gasket problems and cylinder leakage. Even this weekend he had a problem with a coil pack and throttle sensor which in the end set him back £750.00 !!! so be carefull where you take it as he has had problems with various establishments.We now only use Austec in Crawley as we find that they have the engine knowledge and facilities to ensure the job gets done properly which when you are spending this sort of money is a big factor when paying the bill.

I have done it myself, and first time it took 2 days, second time a day, third time about 3 hours with TrackCar talking me through the final part...
I would suggest a hour for a specialist is perfectly 'doable' provided there are no problems. If there are throttle pots playing up, ball joint wear etc etc, then expect longer.

It is really difficult to say how long a Cerb will take to set up if it is down on power, as there could be numerous factors that are causing the power loss. Hopefully it will be something simple, but either way it would be best to take it to an Indie who knows what they are doing.
My recommendation would be to take it to Joolz at Track Car Solutions, Sunderland to Worcestershire is some drive, but if you can get on the M1 then you will pass TCS at J30.

Austec have done some good work on that car, pity to hear that it's had a recent problem....£750
, especially as it is up for sale. I've got to admit that it's a bit of a bargain now at £22k. Hope it sells soon....

This thread may run the risk of terrifying the life out of you but there's good advice in it - a specialist close to home is what you need. The likelihood of a 'drop in' fix is slim but may be worth a punt? You could be lucky.
The fact the engine was rebuilt by TVR Eng 7K miles ago doesn't mean much. 1K after the rebuild it should have had its tappets done which involves lifting out the cams. It's all too easy to replace them incorrectly. Cerberas run "OK" with the cams timed wrongly but they are down on power.
Tappets are [officially] a 12K interval job but I've always had mine done when they sound like they need it - anywhere between 6K and 9K in my experience.
I've spoken to Offords about a 12k service with tappet adjustment so I'd be getting that aspect fettled pretty quickly. I just wanted to get it setup quickly so I didnt have to take it straight in for its service. Mainly because I wanted a couple of weeks of driving before I had to be without the car

One of Doms customers did just this once 176 on the motorway and got caught!. Spend 6 weeks in Jail I think (not Dom's fault, customer was trying out his new car!!!!)

Talking to Dom recently, he mentioned a red rose upgrade for the 4.2, has any one had one yet? Or know what it consists of ? I don't like to keep him on the phone to much.
