after fixing the steering i like this thing more now
finding out the chassis is perfect and that half the car is bits of old ford that i'm really familiar with helped
still got a good list of things to fix - adjust and lubricate hand brake - fix left hand headlamp - fix fuel guage/sender - overhaul gearbox remore - some new shocks all round wouldn't hurt
so not bad for starters
i noticed from the service history that the car had a full engine rebuild half way through it's life so that's some thing
don't you just love it when people keep all the service history and reciepts along with old mots and tax discs ?
i know it's a bit anal but it doesn't half make life simpler years later
hope you are all enjoying what's left of a great summer for toys

A couple of tips...
1 Search PH as this has been done to death already!
2 Silicone grease is recommended.

Glad you're getting into the swing of it!

It is amazing how much nicer they feel when the steering wheel is not bouncing around over the bumps.

Have you checked what state the suspension bushes are in? We had to replace the doughnut bushes on the front tie bar and the arb drop link bushes - made the front end even nicer.

yep loads better now
the bushes are ok - or as good at bits of cortina are going to get
i have the same suspension on my old cobra replica and when i stuck poly bushes on it made the ride very harsh
has any one had success with poly bushes on the wedges ?

The 400 is fully polybushed and has uprated springs/dampers (previous owner), it does have a pretty harsh ride.

The 350 just has polybushes on the arb drop link and front tie bar, this gave a much nicer feel to the car in corners and under braking but did not make the ride harsh. Having said that the original rubber bushes were completely shot so new rubber ones would also probably have helped.

The 350 is much nicer to drive in many ways but unfortunately has to be sold to pay for the 400. Hopefully someone local to you will have a wedge with the polybushes and will take you out for a ride.

Just poly'd my 350i. ARB and front tie bar only. It's made a world of difference, but then again the old blubber bushes were shot.

Like my poly-bushes on my 350i - everything is done. Old blubber was still ok, but improvement noticeable. No harsh ride here, only when I setup the dampers too hard. They are now set for fast road and not very fast or trackday. Seems to be a better setup anyway for faster A to B travelling in the real world, with better road holding and very predictable/progressive handling. Poly improved especially the handling under fast driving conditions, and with the dampers set to 'not too hard' fine compromise (and best setting yet) for me.

Remark: Poly-bush can vary in specification. If too hard, could result in harshness or breaking of suspension parts.
