Who's got one, what are they like as a daily commuter etc, etc. I'm selling my 06 CBR600RR , looking to move to a sport tourer, as I'm doing far more miles than I ever thought I would, and I value my arthritic old knees!!! :-)
So if any of you lads or lasses fancy a Pearl Fire Orange and Black CBR, with 1200 miles on the clock and can meet me somewhere around £6K everyone's a winner!

Friend of mine rides one and love it. The 06 model has decent fueling which wasn't the case with the earlier models. As you say, it's a good combination of touring and scratching so should suit somebody looking to cover lots of miles in combination with the odd blast...
Shame you have to get shot of the CBR - try a trade in with the dealer as well...

Visited a dealer in Abingdon, (name withheld), who simply wanted to skin me alive at less than £5K for an eight week old 1200 mile mint bike. I guess they've got to make a buck as well though, so I wasn't all that surprised.
Might buy a new VFR on a PCP. The figures suggest something like £120 a month, with the balloon payment at the end of three years, then trade in for another :-)

I hate to say it, but that's the value of taking a proper test ride. Amazing how many people don't bother when buying a bike (something I've never figured out). You'd test drive a new car before buying one.
Good luck with the VFR! Seems like the fuelling's finally been fixed, so it should be a top bike. Could you buy an older VFR, but use a Power Commander and dyno expert to fix the fuelling? Might be a cheaper solution for you.

Yep, quite agree, but there we are. Most dealers won't let you ride a bike for more than 1/2 an hour. I wanted the CBR for a day, but there was no way that was going to happen...
So Julian, what's the latest? Is the RR staying or going? I'm having a similar train of thought myself recently, as I've done more motorway miles of late than twisty ones. This is not good on the wrists. The more I think about the Viffer, the more I'm swaying myself towards getting one, though I'm shuddering at the thought of all the bits'n'bobs I'd do to it....

I really don't know, I'm in a complete quandry about it. If I wasn't losing almost £1900 on the trade in, I think I'd be on a VFR by the end of the week. Problem with comparing the two is the 600 feels taut, and beautifully screwed together. The VFR just doesn't exude that same quality, I think it's the patches of vibration over the rev range that make me feel it's just not so nice, or well sorted. I actually like the way it rides and handles, but it just feels a little 'slack'. Don't know if that makes any sense?
It does make sense. I haven't ridden a VFR, but wonder if the vibration is due to the engine just being different from a smooth inline 4, rather than anything else ... ? It's a V4 after all, so probably in between an inline 4 and a V-twin.
VFRs have a superb reputation for build quality; mates of mine have owned VFRs and really rated their quality. However, there must surely be a VFR owner, or former owner, on PH to answer you properly.
As for test riding, I've found dealers vary enormously. One local dealer charges £20 for a ride. Another wants a credit card swipe for a 2-hour ride, so it costs you nothing (assuming you don't drop the bike!). Yet another merely wanted a photocopy of my license for a ride with no time limit. And BMW now offers all-day test rides. It might be worthwhile shopping around to find a dealer who'll let you ride the VFR for an hour or two.

Hi I have had a cbr 600 sport and the older vfr 800. The new VFR is a great bike and much more comfortable than the cbr 600rr. However, its not as much fun to ride - I know that the new one is slightly more sportier but its much heavier, slower to turn and lacks some of the visual appeal of the 600. I kept mine a year before moving onto a fireblade.
A better bet maybe to get the normal cbr 600 which should be more comfortable than the rr. Also you would be surprised at how comfortable the fireblades are (not the 1000rr) - more the 954 and 929. So I would try one of those as well.
In terms of test rides and deals try dobles in Surrey (not linked in anyway) but being one of the largest dealers in the UK they have great prices for new stuff and their part exchange prices are pretty good. Dobles second hand prices arent as great but they may offer you a better trade in.
The other dealer which is quite good is Lloyd cooper in Watford.
