Exhaust systems...

Hi all,

Can anybody give me a simple answer as to how the S1 and S3 exhaust systems differ? I was quite tempted by this......

P.S. Is it likely to be any louder than my standard S3 system ? I do hope so......

I believe the manifolds are slightly different, I recall on the S1 they are called siamese ports, maybe someone can shed some light on this.

S1 (2.8 engine) has 2 ports in each cylinder head - the middle cylinder is "siamesed" rather than with its own port in the head.

The later 2.9 engine has 3 ports in each head - 1 per cyclinder.

So the manifolds aren't interchangeable - neither are the downpipes. The rest of the system might be much the same though.

The S3C is different again - it has longer manifolds tapped for the Lambda sensors, and with different ends to fit the cats - although you can remove the cats and put in bypass pipes, the resulting arrangement is not the same as the S2 and standard S3.
